Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) MCLEOD TAIT August 31, 1935 - March 11, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jack, peacefully, at home. He was 81. He will be lovingly remembered by Judy, his wife of 58 years; his sons, Randy and Gary; his daughter Sharon; son-in-law Norbert and their children, Max and Kat; brother Ray; sister-in-law Bette; sister Ila; sister-in-law Violet; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Kathleen (McLeod) Tait. Jack enjoyed a long career with Manitoba Hydro, starting in his home town of Manitou in 1954, soon transferring from there into the Winnipeg office. He took evening courses in drafting and a four year evening course in Management at U of M, to help further advancement in the company. He was an Engineering Tech, working in all regions, Selkirk, Brandon, and Winnipeg. Jack made lifelong friends at Hydro, remembered for his sense of humour and big laugh. He retired in December, 1992. Jack was always a gentleman, a friend to all and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, music, dancing, and watching baseball, his favourite Giants. He enjoyed carpentry and built a cottage at Valhalla Beach that was enjoyed by the family for years, but then moved on to a travel trailer in retirement. Jack and Judy had almost 25 wonderful retirement years, to try new adventures. He liked to have a part-time job but always ready for a drive to Vancouver to spend time with the grandchildren. Jack loved to travel; a trip to Iceland was a big highlight, staying with Judy's relatives, being taken all over to see the sights. Other trips very much enjoyed were to Mexico, Hawaii, New York, New Orleans, winters in Texas with friends and an interesting drive to Dawson City, Yukon, In recent years Jack struggled with health problems, but his determination to keep going stayed strong. Our sincere thanks to Geriatric Health, the staff at the Grace Hospital and Dr. M. Nolan for their kind and considerate care. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Rd, Winnipeg.
