GIANROBERTO DOMENICO TRAVAN
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGIANROBERTO (JOHN) DOMENICO TRAVAN It is with great sadness that we announce John's passing on March 29, 2017, following a brief illness at the age of 58 years. His family never left his side. John is survived by his wife of almost 31 years, Debbie (nee Rabb); his children, Katie, Daniel, and Caroline; his parents, Mario and Luigia (Ortis) Travan; sisters, AnnaMaria (Chris), and Eleonora (Alvin), and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Winnipeg, Italy, and Holland. John was born and raised in Winnipeg in Wolseley where he loved and was active in many sports but had a particular love and talent for hockey which he played all year, often enlisting his sisters and other children as goalies. He played hockey at many community rinks; he played ball hockey, street hockey, and floor hockey and was able to watch some of his idols play at the old arena in the 70s. John grew up with many good friends in elementary and high school with whom he wiled away many happy hours and summer days. He was also fond of riding his 10 speed on his own for long rides through Assiniboine Park. When John was a young man he became inspired to become a Chiropractor. He took his entrance courses at the Uof W and then attended Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia where he graduated with honours in 1983. John returned to Winnipeg and practiced at the Bohemier Clinic in St. Boniface and then in Minnedosa and Birtle, Manitoba. John met Debbie while attending college in Georgia and they married in 1986, residing in Minnedosa for a short time before settling in Easley, South Carolina. With Debbie working as his receptionist John was soon able to establish his own practice and he grew into his new community where he made many new friends. John was ecstatic with the arrival of each of his children; he loved roughhousing with them, coaching sports, attending their events, doting on them, and being part of their lives. He was proud of the family and life he created with Debbie and he loved his work where he would often go in early in case someone came by; he had no plans to retire. John was always full of stories about his family, and he loved to talk about the Jets (his white-out shirt was ready), hockey and politics. He loved mowing his lawn at high noon, sleeping in the sun, opera, reading, and his faith. The funeral mass for John was held on April 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina, his favourite church. "Just as the sun will set, then rise with each and every dawn, the souls of those who lived life well, eternally live on." We love you and miss you.

John Travan was one of my closest and dearest friends from Kindergarten to University. I am so saddened to hear about his passing. He was one of the essential Wolseley boys. We spent our childhood riding our bikes, playing scrub football and baseball, organized sports at Laura Secord and Gordon Bell, community club sports, playing Knock on Ginger, watching neighborhood dogs fight, swimming at Sherbrook Pool and enjoying the good life in our neighborhood. In grade 12 John wanted to buy a car. He did not have a drivers licence but not to be deterred, we nonetheless went to McNaught's Used car lot in from of the old Winnipeg Roller Rink. John liked a yellow Plymouth Fury on the lot. It was $500. I told him to bargain with the guy but he said $ 500 was a good price and he then had a car, a car which only I could drive home. Within minutes we picked up James McIvor and Steve Crawford, filled the tank with $ 5 of gas and we drove around all day laughing and honking/waving at people. We walked to school and University every day for many years. We would talk endlessly about the Jets, the Bombers, who had the faster bike, what type of woman to marry, how many children we want, who's mom made the better cookies and other such congruencies. At the University of Winnipeg we created a cozy little area we called the "Crow's Nest" at the top of the escalators in Centennial Hall. While I would study, John would "talk up the ladies". How many times did I plead "john you have to study". lol. I will miss you John as will all your friends back home. Peace be with Debbie, the kids, your parents and sisters. John was a very special man who was much loved and admired by so many. - Posted by: MIKE COOK (DEAR FRIEND) on: Apr 25, 2017

My sincere condolences to the Travan family. I fondly remember GianRoberto from our family visits when we were very young children. May the caring, heartfelt thoughts of family and friends and loving memories help you this difficult time. - Posted by: Daniel Massaroni (Family friend) on: Apr 23, 2017

My heartfelt condolences to all of John's family. This is very sad news but as a high school classmate, we'll remember many happy stories. Indeed John loved hockey, we played many a ball & ice hockey game together! Perhaps not quite with Gordie Howe's goal scoring talent, John did share Gordie's talent for "the elbow", making sure you knew what you were getting if you challenged for the ball or puck. Perhaps his bone-crunching ways inspired him for chiropractic! We'll raise a toast for John and a couple of our other classmates who've left us far too early, next month at our high school alumni re-connect. -- Dennis Bayomi - Posted by: Dennis Bayomi (High School Classmate & Friend) on: Apr 16, 2017
