ROBERT JAMES DEWAR Robert James Dewar, 46, of Winnipeg passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017. Rob is survived by his son Kahl (and Kahl's mother, Camelia Bourgeois); brother Alan (Lorraine); sister Jo-Anne (partner Derek Ramlal); nephews Emmet and Asher Dewar, nieces, Taryn and India Saxberg. He will be missed by many other extended family and friends too numerous to list. Robert was pre-deceased by his parents Ron and Agnes. Robert was born on February 17, 1971 graduating from West Kildonan Collegiate. Rob had a lifelong career at the Winnipeg Free Press where many are saddened by the loss of his gentle soul. Rob (RW) was a true friend and followed 'The Golden Rule' in all his interactions. His loves were Kahl, family, friends and golf (in that order). Rob had a smile that could brighten a room and that smile would grow if any of those loves had the ability to be combined. RW cherished any time spent in support of Kahl's activities; as well as, participating in events with his nieces and nephews. He always made time to be there to provide support and encouragement. Rob was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in late January and was appreciative of the care provided by the CancerCare Team, Health Sciences Centre doctors and staff with support by family and friends. Though Rob left us much too young he lived each and every moment to the fullest having most recently enjoyed a spring break adventure in Edmonton with Kahl. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in trust for Kahl Dewar (Education Fund) at any branch of the Royal Bank; or a charity of your choice A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Tuesday April 18, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Home.

  • Rob was one of the earliest members of the Port Moody BC based Heritage Mountain Golf Association. HMGA is just a bunch of guys who get together once a year to catch up on life and play a bit of golf, in that order. Meeting Rob for the 1st time meant seeing that huge smile for the 1st time, quickly followed by a firm handshake. When Rob said "great to meet you", he meant it. None of us will be keeping up to Rob's booming drives down the fairway, but this year and every year following we will definitely hold a toast to Rob, a great guy. Our hearts go out to your family and friends Rob. - Posted by: Derrick Chamberlain (Golf buddy) on: Apr 16, 2017

  • Rob was the very first Mailer I met and his kindness was the first thing I noticed. In the nine years we worked together I've never seen him be vexed or mistreat anybody in any way. He was gentle, kind , honest and sincere. If others were more like him, this world would be a better place. This is how Rob will be remembered. My deepest condolences to his son & family.
