MARY (MAISIE) MAGUIRE The peaceful passing of Mary "Maisie" Maguire, age 88 years, beloved mother of Malcolm and Erwin, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Maisie was predeceased by her parents, Smith and Maggie Aiken; two sisters, Margaret and Norah; her brother Ellice all of Scotland and her ex-husband, Ken Maguire of Elgin. Maisie will be remembered as a talented singer and who always enjoyed singing in the church choir. She loved to dance and talked with joy and smiles about her ballroom dancing days in Scotland. Maisie also enjoyed the theatre, travel, food (sweets: cookies, ice cream, butter tarts) and flowers (especially - gladiolas and roses). Maisie was born and raised in Dundee, Scotland. After leaving school she worked in a ladies' dress store. Following her recovery from a tragic car accident in Scotland, that killed her boyfriend and left her with a broken back, she moved to Winnipeg, Canada to live with her aunt and uncle. There, she met Ken Maguire, who became her husband and the father of her two sons. They lived on the farm near Elgin, MB. This is where she learned to drive, something that she was always very proud of. In 1979, Ken and Maisie separated, she moved to Brandon and they later divorced. She took great pride and joy in the things that she was able to accomplished on her own such as buying her own house back in Elgin in 1984. Maisie survived a second car accident in 1991 that ended her driving days. In 2003, she sold her house in Elgin and moved to an apartment in Brandon. In 2010, she moved to Dinsdale Personal Care Home where she received wonderful care until her death. Malcolm and Erwin would like to thank the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home and the Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care Unit of Brandon Regional Health Centre for the excellent care, love and support that Maisie and they received from them. A memorial service to mark Maisie's life will take place at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Maisie's name and cremated remains will be laid to rest with her parents in Dundee, Scotland in July.
