PHYLLIS HARLAND On Saturday, April 15, 2017, Phyllis Harland passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, with family at her side, at the age of 85 years. Phyllis was much loved and will be sadly missed by Ted, her husband of 64 years; daughters, Carol Patrick, Shelley Lindquist (Larry) and Mary Li (Val); son Tom Harland (Debby); grandchildren, Dan, Chris (Suri), Mathew (Andrew), Janet (Mike), Tracy, Joe, Tom, Katie, and Natalie; and great-grandson Jack. She was predeceased by her brother George. Phyllis was born and lived her whole life in Winnipeg. After completion of grade 12 at Kelvin High School she entered the Registered Nursing program at what was then the Winnipeg General Hospital (now Health Sciences Centre) becoming a Registered Nurse in 1953. Phyllis worked in that capacity for a short while until marriage and family intervened. She made a warm and loving home for her husband and children and a welcoming gathering place for her children's friends and classmates. Phyllis was active in church work and as a long-time member of the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society. Reading was a life-long source of pleasure, and she became a keen bridge player with a wide circle of friends. Phyllis was a devoted animal lover. Many lucky dogs (and one cat) shared their lives with her and were an important part of her family. She and Ted enjoyed travel, visiting and exploring many parts of the world together. Summers were spent at Victoria Beach with children and grandchildren. The closing pages of Phyllis's story were greatly eased by the those who cared for her at Riverview Health Centre. Their unfailing kindness and consideration were a great comfort to her and to her family. There will be a private memorial event for the family. In lieu of flowers friends may, if they wish, donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to another animal welfare organization.
