Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • The family of the Halyckyj's Anna, Anthony, and Alexander and myself offer our condolences to the Smilinsky family in the loss of my dear friend and neighbour Walter. I knew Walter for many years as we are so close neighbours. I last time I saw Walter was this winter cleaning snow I will go over and talk to Walter and ask him how he's doing, we would chat for long while. Walter was a caring man who I shall never forget his smiles and laughter. In 1993 I was an unemployed Electrician and Walter mentioned to me that a Electrician position was coming up at the St. James School Division, Walter gave me a number and a name which was Renaud Paquet as he was the foreman at the school division and asked me to call him. I went down for the interview and got the job, I am so grateful to Walter for doing this I'm being a Ukrainian with an English accent and we had a United Nation Maintenance Department at the St James School Division. Walter I am going to miss you as my friend and neighbour. RIP VICHNAYA PAMYAT. - Posted by: Joseph Halyckyj (Friend/ neighbour) on: Apr 22, 2017

  • We knew Walter for over ten years from Calvary Temple. He went for coffee at Tim Horton's with us after church during that time. Having worked for the St. James School Division he knew my cousin Lyall Sims who was a principal in one of the schools. And he also knew Bill Pankiw who I worked with at MTS. It is going to seem strange going to church on Sunday and not seeing his car parked in its usual spot on the street or being greeted by him with a smile and a church bulletin as we entered the sanctuary on the way to our seats. Yes, it was a shock seeing him go so suddenly but at least he went peacefully and did not suffer. He lived a long and happy life and now he is in a better place. We offer our condolences to all of you. - Posted by: Edwin & Janet Peart (Friends) on: Apr 22, 2017
