ALICE ROSE DELANEY
Date of Passing: Apr 15, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE ROSE DELANEY Alice died on April 15, 2017 of natural causes at the age of 95. She is survived by her husband of 67 years John Myrslaw Delaney (Slim), her daughter Joanne Smoley, son-in-law Doug Smoley, son Gary Delaney, son John Delaney, grandchildren Greg Smoley, Dan Smoley and Kim Smoley, and great-grandchild Summer Cleave. Alice was born Aleksandra Wilusz. She left her birth country, Poland, at the age of three with her father Edward, mother Emilia, and sisters Bronislawa (Bernice), and Elzbieta (Betty). She arrived at Saint John, NB March 15, 1926. She reached Winnipeg, which became home, after stops in Cedoux, SK, Mulvihill, MB, and Teulon, MB. Her formative years were spent in Teulon where, in between innings of her favourite pastime, baseball, she met Slim. They married in 1950. They parted in 2017 on her death. Family came first and she could not have been more giving, more loving or more caring. Alice could do or learn to do anything. She continually educated herself just for the journey of learning everything she could about a subject and then applying that knowledge to produce something wonderful. She was a true craftswoman, adept at drawing, painting, embroidery, knitting, crotchet, needlepoint, cooking, quilting and sewing. She won multiple awards for exhibiting craftwork annually at the Red River Exhibition Art Show. Her work was admired by everyone. She was an avid gardener and she respected nature. She was a master at recycling, years before it became commonplace. Recycling to Alice meant producing something artistic or useful from something that would otherwise be discarded. She taught and stood for truth, integrity and honesty. She loved and defended her family against all. She conquered much in life. She lived through hardship. She had joy. She had tears. She fought through adversity. It was age that finally beat her. She lived her life for those she loved and those she loved will remember. On behalf of Alice, her family would like to thank the staff on Unit 2 at the Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care during her final weeks. Consistent with her altruistic spirit and in accordance with her decades long wishes, arrangements have been made to donate her body to the University of Manitoba Service After Death Program for anatomical study for students training in health care professions. Alice's family will be having a private Celebration of her Life.

To my family out west...warmest hugs and love to all of you..from all of us here out east. How we all loved Auntie Alice !! oh my! So many memories..from her world famous perogies to her smile and laugh. I can hear voice by memory so easily when I think of the times at the cottage here in Ontario with Uncle Slim and our gang of Delaney kids! My trips out west were so great being at her house..getting off the train and coming to see them! We lost an Angel and Heaven gained one...May she know that she leaves a big piece of her love in everyone's heart...as so too..each of us are in hers. Love to all.. Kathy Delaney-Roseborough. Hi Joanne. I simply want to offer my condolences to yourself and your family. Your mother sounds like she was a wonderful person, full of life, and enjoyed as well as took advantage of involving herself in creating. You were blessed as was she. God bless, Chris - Posted by: Chris Main (Friend of Joanne Smoley ) on: Apr 25, 2017
