Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOEL REIMER July 6, 1928 April 18, 2017 Today we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; beloved patriarch and devoted man of faith. Joel Reimer passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at age 88. Born July 6, 1928, Joel is survived by his cherished wife Nettie (nee Kehler); his children, Gloria (Allan), Gordon (Yvonne), Stan (Marika); grandchildren, Joel (Roxanne), Gordon, Stean, Nicole, Kelsey, Sloan; and one great-granddaughter Sadie. He is also survived by his brothers, Almon, Arnold (Shirley); sister Mary (Peter); sister-in-law Elma; and in Nettie's family, sister Susan; brothers, Andrew and Edward (Sylvia) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Christopher; brothers, Eno and Rueben; sisters-in-law Annie, Tina, and Betty. Joel, son of John C. And Maria Reimer was born in Blumenhof, close to Steinbach, Manitoba, just in time for the "Great Depression". His life on the family farm known as the "Bush Farm" was hard work but the joy of growing up in a large loving family transcended any economic hardship. The depression taught life lessons such as "do more with less". Out of necessity Joel learned to fix anything. Although not formally trained, he had an innate ability to understand machinery and the laws of physics. This knowledge was complimented by an unsurpassed work ethic. Whether serving employers, church, or family, his dedication to the cause benefited everyone. Joel's attributes were crowned by his total and unwavering devotion to God and desiring good for all people. Joel met Nettie the love of his life in southern Ontario while working in an orchard. So began a bond in 1951 that would never be broken. Joel with Nettie by his side provided strong grounding for a family rooted in faith, tradition, love, and respect. Joel handled his many health setbacks with dignity and courage. The family would like to express immeasurable gratitude to those at the Concordia and Grace Hospitals and the support he received from Morrow Gospel Church. The funeral service will take place on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Gospel Church, 755 St. Anne's Rd., Winnipeg, MB, with viewing prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Joel may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Winnipeg, MB.
