RODRICK JERMAINE JONES Rodrick Jermaine Jones left to bust up some fish on Sunday, April 23, 2017. His family and friends surrounded him as he left for angling action on the other side. Only his momma was allowed to call him Rodrick, and was known by one and all as "Rod" or "The Man Who Could Fix Anything." Katherine Jones (Miss Kat) and James Hulbert welcomed Rod into the world on June 28, 1979, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rod was able to teach brother Cedric to bait a hook a few years later. Despite adversity, Rod flourished in school. He was offered scholarship at age 16 to MIT. Rod decided against leaving, because MA was "too cold and too far away". Ironically, he came to Winnipeg and married Sandi on May 19, 2005. Rod found his calling working for Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries as a technician. Predeceased by Miss Kat, an infant daughter, and father-in-law Walter, Rod leaves wife Sandi, daughters Rosalynd and Viola, Cedric (Herlonda), father James, in-laws Arlene (Bill) and Morgan, Sharene (Colin), Madielle (Mary), Aunts Aurillia, Tam, and Mary, cousins Peppi, Timesha, and Hopey, best buds Jerome (Lisa), Vic, and Brian, the Coulter Clan, the Hickes Clan, and so many friends, family, and co-workers that they would be impossible to list. We are so incredibly grateful to the loving care the staff at the St. Boniface ICU gave us. "He had us hopping" could be a statement applied to so many Rod, you were loved, wanted, and needed by so many people, this has been impossible to include everything you were and that was important to you. As per Rod's wishes, there will be no funeral or grave. Cremation has taken place. A come-and-go gathering will be held on Friday, April 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Please contact family and friends for information on location. Another celebration will be held in Louisiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are accepted gratefully at CancerCare Manitoba, or to the education funding campaign which has been initiated for Viola and Rosalynd: https://www.gofundme.com/education-trust-for-rods-daughters.

Rod was the man, plain and simple. My thoughts are with Sandi and the girls. We each add to the grand equation, and Rod gave his goodness. Nothing more can be asked of any of us. - Posted by: John Cort (Ghost of Christmas Math ) on: Jul 28, 2017

Rod was more than my computer tech. He was my friend, my fishing buddy and a person who would listen to you no matter what you had to say. You will be dearly missed. We would spend many an hour sitting in the boat talking about the job he loved and his family whom he loved even more. I always admired Rod for being the man that had his priorities right. (Family First). May God bless you and keep a watchful eye over your family. Rest In Peace My Friend - Posted by: Marvin Robbins (Friend) on: Jun 15, 2017

I first met Rod in college via a mutual friend, and whenever we got together it was a fantastic time. He was thoughtful, inventive, and a genuine pleasure to be around. I don't think I've ever had more fun than the days we spent gaming for hours at a time. Rod was a wonderful friend; he will be missed. - Posted by: Bryan (Old friend) on: May 06, 2017

It is a blessing and an honor to discover someone as amazing as Rodrick not only preferred but allowed me to address him as Mama did. That alone is an everlasting gift in itself as I knew how close they are. Just as Rodrick and Mama V were like second Mother & Son. Mama V had given him his first chance at sharing his incredible cooking skills in the restaurant business. Rodrick in general was doing too much. He needed rest but refused. He loved doing things for others out of kindness & had given his all when completing any task. It wasn't just any quick 'fix' it was a unspoken reminder of his greatness beyond a simple tool or something that can be replaced. His mind, his wisdom and beauty are irreplaceable. We spent everyday together in the last year and I cherish every second I remember. I'm so happy to have learned a lot from you as you did from me. Ashes to ashes my Brother.. Rest well to the hardest working & Dearest of Kings... - Posted by: Bobbi Jackson (Best Friend) on: May 03, 2017

Very sorry to hear of Roderick's passing. I didn't know Rod. I had only met him a couple of times at Gilchrist events. When people talked of him it was always positively. Sending love and hugs to Sandi and daughters and the family and friends who know and love him. - Posted by: Jan Gilchrist (Relative) on: Apr 28, 2017

Rod was a friend one could always count on. Hell, he took me to get my wisdom teeth removed and then took care of me after; coming by every 6 hours to pour some soup and medicines down me so I could recover. We would grill burgers on the weekends and I used to keep a piece of paper taped to the wall so we could write down anything anyone said that could be taken out of context. Rod somehow always had the most quotes (much to his chagrin). I have so many fond memories. Him grilling out on his porch once during a hurricane; umbrella in one hand, spatula in the other. I remember going to Mardi Gras multiple times, I remember when he and our friend, Dan, took a week from school to play the new Grand Theft Auto. I remember him as our DM for our insane games of Vampire: the Masquerade. Most of all, I remember the laughter. There was never a dull moment when he was around. We hadn't talked much in the past while as life tends to get in the way, but when we did chat, he always sounded so happy. And that's how I'll think of him forever. That big grin on his face. I'll miss you, man. - Posted by: Courtney (Old friend) on: Apr 28, 2017

Rod was a good guy, one of the best. I didn't know him all that well, but if I ever had a question about Cajun or Southern cooking, Roderick was the go-to guy. I swear that man could make boot-leather taste good, and look like a $100.00 restaurant meal! He'll be missed by everyone who knew him. - Posted by: Pedro Bedard (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2017
