JEAN M. HARDIE Jean M. Hardie (nee McGillivray), 88, peacefully passed away December 15, 2016. Jean was born February 9, 1928 in Edinburgh Scotland. She married Robert Hardie March 5, 1949 and in 1951 they made Winnipeg their new home. Jean and Bob loved to travel and they made many visits back to Scotland and England to see family and friends. They also visited Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Kenya, and they enjoyed many cruises together. Jean enjoyed two trips to Cuba with her church friends and often talked about joining them on their most recent visit. Thanks to friends Diane and Jim, Mum had a memorable 86th birthday celebration in Texas. Jean became a life member of the St. Michael Chapter #211 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Linlithgow Scotland. Once settled in Winnipeg, she became very involved with the OES Queen Winnipeg Chapter One, eventually becoming Worthy Matron. Mum had so many wonderful friendships through the Eastern Star and loved attending conferences with Isobel and Glenna. She especially enjoyed visits with friend Jean, who always brought over delicious empire biscuits! Jean is survived by her two daughters, Arlene (Peter) Joannides and grandson John, of London, England, and Jeanie (Tim) Johnston of Wisconsin. Arlene and Jeanie thank Sharon and Eric for their dedicated care and time given to Jean, (you will always be family to us), Dr. Karen Moran De Muller for her compassion and care, Sue Campeau and staff, 3rd Floor South - Victoria General Hospital, special friends Ruth and Mary and caregiver Motake at Harmony Court, and to her many friends who visited, sent cards and kept Jean in their prayers. Heartfelt thanks to special friend Allison who visited Mum in her last hours. A Celebration of Life tea party will be held Friday, May 5, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 1J4. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, please consider making a donation in memory of Jean to Churchill Park United Church.
