Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJENNIE (JEN) HOWARD CAREY (nee BONNER) November 26, 1921 - April 22, 2017 On Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the grand old age of 95, Jen quietly left us to join Terry up above. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children and grandchildren: sons Murray (Kristen), Bill (Aynsley) and Dan (Mary) Carey; daughter Susan (Rob) Depoe; her grandchildren (whom she called her 11 "toads" and numbered them in order of birth): Steven (Jillian), Erin (Jamie), Chelsea, Taylor (Nick), Kiel (Brittany), Samantha (Mark), Kaitlin, Mac (Jennifer), Carey, Jill and Morgan; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Sawyer and Emmeline. She will also be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Jen was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Terry, her parents Janet and Wallace Bonner, her sister Margaret, and her brothers Joseph, Murray and Robert. Jen was born in Miniota, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm. She completed Teacher's College, or Normal School as it was then called, and taught at schools in rural Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg, where she met Terry. They married in 1948 and raised their family in St. James and East Kildonan. Jen was an at-home mom when the kids were growing up, often substitute teaching at her children's school when needed. She was also a "volunteer extraordinaire", running the canteen at Melrose Community Centre, delivering "Meals on Wheels" to seniors, helping out at Children's Hospital, and canvassing the neighbourhood for charitable causes. After her children were grown, Jen worked in the drapery business and with the Federal Government in the Winnipeg pension office. In later years she enjoyed spending time with her extended family in Winnipeg, Calgary, and especially at Lake of the Woods. She was most proud of her 11 "toads" and their accomplishments, and she shared her love with every one of them. Jen was a kind, caring person with a keen mind and great determination. She was a truly "regal" lady, and well-liked by anyone who met her. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She taught us to believe in ourselves, to see the best in those around us, to seek excellence and to live life to the fullest. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family interment at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Our deepest condolences to all of the Carey family on the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother Jen. We know she will be dearly missed. While we did not know Jen well, when we visited with her at the lake while at Kristen and Murray's, Jen was always very kind and gracious. She was blessed with a full and enriching life. May she now rest in peace. Take care, Carolyn and John Cordeau and family - Posted by: Carolyn Phillips (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2017
