GLORIA JOAN PATRY
Born: Sep 23, 1921
Date of Passing: Apr 21, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLORIA JOAN PATRY Gloria Joan Patry passed away peacefully on April 21, 2017 with family by her side. Joan was born on September 23, 1921 in Winnipeg to Arthur and Viola Diplock, and predeceased by her sister Gladys, twin brothers Arthur and Edward, grandson Michael Patry, and husband Gaetan. She is survived by her children David (Beverly), Patrick (Colleen), Gloria (Ken) and Gaetanne (Dan), 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joan worked as a teenager at the Banff Springs Hotel, at Dominion Bridge during war time where she met Dad, and at the Hudsons Bay in the cosmetics department for 30 years. Mom loved her crafts. Her family and many neighbourhood children were well dressed in her handmade clothing. She loved to cook and bake, volunteered in school activities, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and knitted blankets for newborns at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom enjoyed the cottage at Matlock, gardening and entertaining family and friends. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling, and were patrons of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Opera, the Ballet and the Symphony. Her greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She encouraged us in our education and promoted a strong work ethic. Even at 95, she often said she still wanted to earn her keep, and stay active and involved. Mom was incredibly strong in the face of many adversities these past few years. Thank you to Vista Park Lodge for the care provided by staff, and her special friends Claudette, Trinity, Rosaline, Arlen and Sabina. We will miss her wit, sense of humour, loving care and kindness. Rest in peace Mom, we love you very much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Johns Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2W 0T8. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Voyage Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1577 Pembina Highway 204-284-7500.

Very sorry and sad to learn about the passing of your mother. It is so hard to loose your mom, I remember Mrs. Patry as a true lady and an amazing seamstress. She made me my first square dancing skirt I was thrilled at how beautiful it was. So kind and gentle someone like her is unforgettable. I am thinking of all of you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Brenda Carriere (Clague ) (Old neighborhood ) on: May 10, 2017

Joan was an elegant lady with lots of grace. I remember her at her 90th birthday party and how much she enjoyed having her friends and beloved family beside her. My condolences to the entire family but especially to Gay who has been my friend for 30 years. With deepest sympathy, Sue Snyder - Posted by: Sue Snyder (Friend) on: May 04, 2017

Our condolences go out to the family. We enjoyed all of our visits with Aunt Joan. Aunt Joan took a great deal of pride in her family and rightfully so. She was attended to by a member of the family every day that she spent at Vista Park Lodge and when we last saw her on April 2nd, 2017, Aunt Joan and her daughter Gay had just returned from a shopping trip to The Bay. She was such a pleasant and vibrant lady and an inspiration to all who knew her. - Posted by: Daniel & Mary Diplock ("The Jacksons") (Nephew) on: May 03, 2017

We enjoyed having both Pat & Joan as next-door neighbours. They were kind to us and generously gave some of their gardening tools to us to keep. Won't be able to trim a tree without thinking of them. I also pass the lovely park bench facing Lake Winnipeg, which they donated to the village for anyone to sit on as we walk along beach front. - Posted by: Dave & Linda Gillis (beach neighbours) on: May 02, 2017

First I want to offer my condolences to all her family and friends. I volunteer Thursday nights and I enjoyed having Joan at my table. She was always a delight and she will be greatly missed. She would think I was psychic because the way I sat I would see the number that Ray was going to call and point it on the card before he called it. She would have a big smile and say "how did you know that". I miss her already. - Posted by: Tammie Kane (volunteer) on: May 02, 2017
