SHEILA SUTHERLAND (nee O'SULLIVAN) Grandma was born Sheila O'Sullivan on July 9, 1936, and passed away suddenly on April 25, 2017. Her roots were firmly planted in Winnipeg, growing up here with her parents and four siblings. She met Bill, the love of her life, at age 13 while attending Luxton School. They married in 1956 and had five children of their own. While Bill chased his hockey dreams across North America, Sheila chased the kids around the house. The family moved often when Bill changed teams, but Winnipeg was truly their home and they always returned here. Theirs was a love story for the ages - 60 years after they first married, Grandma still visited Grandpa at Middlechurch Home every day, and still thought he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. With only two weeks between their passings, we can truly say that they couldn't live without each other. A homemaker by trade, Grandma was never one to sit still. She kept busy babysitting the grandkids, lawn bowling, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, reading, doing crosswords or word search puzzles, and baking. Many will remember Grandma for her compassion and heart of gold - from rocking babies who wouldn't stop crying to knitting mittens for the homeless, she was a mother to nearly everyone she met and had a hug for anyone who needed one. Grandma's greatest joy in life was her family, and she leaves behind many of us who will miss her deeply - son Ken (Kerri) and grandchildren Kayla, Keenan, Kyle, and Kelton; daughter Maureen Matthews, grandchildren Kristen (Jay), and Amy (Trevor), great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Logan; son Jeff; son Dan (Kelly) and grandchildren Will, Ashley (Steve) and Mason; daughter Marianne Komar and grandchildren Kyla and Jaiden. An afternoon tea in celebration of her life will be held Friday, May 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Ambassador Ballroom at Canad Inns Club Regent. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, who helped Grandma fight and win her battle with lung cancer, and gave the family 11 extra years of hugs.
