MARC (CAREY) CAUTHERS It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marc (Carey) Cauthers announce his sudden passing on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the age of 48 years. Left to cherish Marc's memory are his wife Tani Miki and their daughter Aïda. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Robert and Lorraine; Tani's parents, Art and Keiko; brothers, Christopher (Paula) and Nicholas; brothers-in-law, Geoff (Cheryl) and Jon; nieces, Courtney, Emerson and Alex; nephew Jesse, and numerous extended family members. Marc loved to travel, and in the early 1990s he moved to Birmingham, England where he lived for two years. He always cherished his time there, making many close friends and going back to visit over the years. Upon his return in 1993, Marc achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in painting from the University of Manitoba, followed by a Bachelor of Education from St. Thomas University in Fredericton in 1995. He held numerous teaching positions in Canada and abroad teaching English and French. His love of travel contributed to his amazing ability to communicate in five different languages. Marc was a kind, empathetic teacher and mentor, especially to the at-risk youth that he worked with. He also held positions as a residential treatment worker assisting people with developmental disabilities. Marc was passionate about art and music and many of his beautiful and intriguing paintings are prominently displayed in his home and the home of his parents. He was an avid guitar and bass player, playing in several bands in Canada and the UK. Marc was a doting father to his baby daughter Aïda (15 months) sharing a special bond with her that was like no other. The time that they spent together was precious and left a lasting memory for Aïda and for his family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road with Rev. Fr. Gerry Ward presiding. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Winnipeg Police Service and to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, specifically the members of Paramedic 36, Engine 12, Medical Supervisor 73, and the EMS Superintendent for their professionalism and compassion during a difficult time. Additionally, many thanks to Rhonda and Dr. Gallagher at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for Aïda to 'Tani Miki'. Marc (or Monsieur) Cauthers was my French teacher for two years in elementary school. He was always a very passionate, patient man. Openly and infectiously inspired by the arts, he taught me to push myself beyond the limits of what school expected from me. He knew I loved drumming and he actually made me a custom CD of his favourite jazz and blues artists to take home. I thought that was really sweet. He helped deepen my appreciation for music, language and art as an integrated lifestyle as opposed to just a hobby. Always cherished and remembered. My deepest condolences to his family. Thank you and R.I.P. Monsieur Cauthers. - Posted by: Morad (Student) on: Jun 29, 2017

Marc, You were a dear friend who spent too fleeting a time in our lives, yet your influence was magical. Thank you for being a true friend. Your 'short visit' to Birmingham (U.K) all those years ago-which actually lasted several years, bought a ray of light to so many lives. I am so sorry to have lost you. Deepest sympathies to your loving family. Aida, your father was a wonderful, generous, funny, gifted and great person. I will mourn him forever. Rest in peace my brother. - Posted by: Linton Shaw (Friend) on: May 05, 2017

Dearest Bob & Lorraine My heart breaks to hear of your sons passing away. I never met him but wish I had. The obituary proves him to be a very kind and heartwarming individual who obviously had a severe impact on a lot of people. You only acquire traits like that from being raised in very loving environment that you both provided for him. I pray that God will help and give you strength. Carey now continues to carry on in a place surrounded by eternal love and happiness. God bless all you and your family to receive peace and serenity. - Posted by: Denise Stone (Friend of the family) on: May 04, 2017

My heartfelt condolences to Marc's family. I was privileged to have work with Marc. He was a gifted educator who touched the lives of many students. Most recently, Marc emailed me about his beautiful little girl Aida. Marc boasted that she had just turned 1 and that this happy little girl brought immense joy to him and his wife and that he couldn't even remember life before her. My condolences as well to Marc's brother, Nicolas, and Marc's niece, Courtney who I got to know at Dakota Collegiate. I know Marc was a special brother and uncle to both of you and he will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers to the entire family. - Posted by: Jill Mathez (Colleague) on: May 04, 2017

Heartfelt and tear filled sympathies to the family. Marc's free spirit and kind heart endear him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Never forget his sense of humour and guitar playing. To every student he came across he was the favourite teacher. No doubt an amazing father and husband. Sincere condolences to you all. Rest in peace dear friend Lisa - Posted by: Lisa Webster (Work colleague and friend) on: May 04, 2017

I am deeply saddened to see that Marc has left us. He was truly a unique individual with a heart of gold. I marvelled at his passion for his students and I enjoyed getting to know him on the tennis court, or sipping a few at the KH Pub. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I know he will be missed. - Posted by: Eugene Hayduk (Marymound Colleague) on: May 04, 2017
