SAIBU BOD MUSA It is with great sorrow that we bid farewell to our beloved Akanbi Musa, Mr. Saibu Bodurin Akanbi Musa born in Lagos Nigeria, December, 1937. Known to his friends as 'Bod' or 'Al-hajji', he was an active member of Winnipeg's Islamic Community and a founding member of the Pioneer Mosque in St. Vital. He was a beloved member of the Nigerian Community. Bod worked for the Nigerian Foreign Service and travelled extensively across Africa. In his youth, along with his wife, he made the milestone pilgrimage to Mecca, the Hajj. In 1968 he immigrated with his family to Washington, DC, where he continued his studies in Economics, and obtained a degree in Business Administration at Southeastern University, after which he worked at the Bureau of National Affairs as an editor. In 1975 Bod moved his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba. In his spare time he volunteered with the Winnipeg Youth Justice Committee, taught ESL, coached his daughters' baseball and soccer team. He worked at the Manitoba Department of Highways, where he served as an MGEU union steward, up until his retirement in 2003. Bod enjoyed the spoils of retirement and travelled to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Vancouver, BC, and Minneapolis, MN. In 2016 he made a third trip to New York City. The highlight of his week was spending time with his granddaughter Aliya every Friday. We will miss your bombastic laugh and know you are watching unlimited WWE in Paradise. Bod is survived by: Ayoka Adiatu Musa, wife of 55 years; children: Sheri Parent (Greg), Lateef, Zainab Musa (Mitch Lyons); and granddaughter: Aliya Parent. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in the name of Saibu Musa to any one of the following organizations: MIA, Manitoba Islamic Association https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/9778 Palliative Care Manitoba www.palliativemanitoba.ca/ supporting-us/donation-form Al-haqq Prayer Group www.alhaqqcanada.ca/donations.html Dearest Father "Alagba, Sun Re Aye AyE E" Janazah (funeral) service will be held at The Grand Mosque, 2445 Waverley St., Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m.
