SUSAN INGIBJORG KUSHNIRUK (BRECKMAN) Susan Kushniruk of Portage la Prairie, age 61, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her spouse John; son Jaryth of Winnipeg; daughter Jennifer (Peter) Sandney with grandchildren Brody and Finn Sandney of Portage la Prairie; mother Ruth Breckman of Winnipeg, and brother Douglas Breckman of Toronto. She was predeceased by her father Gordon Breckman Susan was born on December 28, 1955 to parents Ruth and Gordon Breckman in Kingston, Ontario. She spent her early years in various locations in Ontario, Germany and Nova Scotia in the course of her father's military career. Susan was a member of the Girl Guides of Canada as a Brownie, Guide and Ranger. She enjoyed camping and had a special joy in riding her pony. In 1970, the family finally settled in Winnipeg where Susan eventually became a legal secretary. A career she pursued, excelled at and enjoyed all her adult life. Most recently she became a founding board member of the Plap City Rollers Derby League and of the Headstone Honeys Roller Derby Team. As per Susan's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held later in her honour. A tree will be planted in her memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 204-857-4021
