MARGARET (PEGGY) CURWEN (nee GRAHAM) On January 31, 2017 Margaret (Peggy) Curwen, beloved wife of Lorne Curwen, passed away at Grace Hospital, at the age of 79 years. In commemoration, a brief graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. in Basswood Cemetery and a celebration of life will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Basswood Hall. Peggy will be fondly remembered by her husband, Lorne and son Michael; sister Beth (David) Kidd; brothers, Greg (Barb) Graham and Bill (Terry) French; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Wellwood in 1938, Peggy grew up on the family farm. She married Lorne Curwen in 1958, whom she met in Basswood during her first teaching job. Peggy and Lorne moved around southern Manitoba and Peggy taught in Crocus Hill, Crawford Park, Portage la Prairie, Carberry, Neepawa, Whitemouth, and Lac du Bonnet. Peggy loved to play music and sing, offering private music lessons in her home, and conducting choirs at church and for CNIB. Peggy was actively involved in her community, organizing Christmas hampers, Carol festivals, and many other public events. Even in retirement, Peggy kept busy in Winnipeg, managing large apartment blocks, working part-time at Linens-n-Things, and even becoming a marriage commissioner. Thank you to family and friends for their cards, phone calls, visits, Facebook messages and condolences. We appreciate your support during this time. Thanks also to the staff at Grace Hospital for their care and compassion. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Peggy, we suggest either the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.

  • My sincere condolences to you Lorne and your family. I remember both of you as a fun loving couple in our Sandy Lake days. I was a very good friend of Veronica's and Marvin's. Maiden name was Hnatuk. My prayers and thoughts are with you on the loss of a great lady. - Posted by: Vicki Lazaruk (Sandy Lake MB friend) on: May 06, 2017
