ANNE BABINIEC

1917 - 2017

One Hundred Years Loved!

Peacefully and holding Brenda's hand, Anne Babiniec joined her Heavenly Father and Johnny, the love of her life, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Anne's memory will be cherished by her daughter Brenda Nikkel and son-in-law Dennis; her two grandchildren, Kevin Nikkel, and Carissa Balcaen with her husband Marc. Anne was predeceased by her parents John and Katherine Pelechaty, her brother Steve, and her loving husband, John Babiniec.

Anne was born on February 25, 1917, to John and Katherine Pelechaty, and was a sister to her younger brother Steve. Anne attended Polson School and Aberdeen High School. Upon graduation, she worked at Swift Canadian Company where she met her husband Johnny, a talented hockey player who was drafted by the New York Rangers. Anne and Johnny were married on July 14, 1940, enjoying 53 wonderful years of marriage. Until Brenda was born, Anne worked at the Hudson's Bay Company and the Metropolitan Store as the floor manager.

As a loving and caring wife, Mother, and Baba, Anne always put the needs of her family before herself, working tirelessly to create a loving home. She surrounded herself with family, and was happiest making special holiday dinners, celebrating birthdays, and sending treats to friends. She always encouraged her family to do their best, and was so proud that Brenda became a teacher. In her spare time, Anne was a member of the Catholic Women's League, helped at church teas, sang in the church choir, made dancing costumes, volunteered for Brenda's classroom, created beautiful needlepoint pictures, gardened, bowled, and cheered at hockey games. All the dogs in Anne's life enjoyed sitting on her lap, and her generosity!

As a Baba, she cherished her time with her grandchildren, and encouraged them to work hard and study. She was generous with her love, support, and encouragement; eagerly babysitting and always attending piano and dancing concerts, hockey games, and Ukrainian dancing recitals. She was so proud that Carissa became a teacher like Brenda, and that Kevin became an engineer and played hockey like Johnny.

Mom was given the gift of time, 100 years loved, where she lived life to the fullest, learned, loved, and made a difference in our lives and in the lives of others. Our family will miss her love, kind heart, loving smiles, winks, sparkly jewellery, and guiding wisdom. Our precious memories of both Mom and Dad, and our Baba and Gigi, will live in our hearts forever and guide us in our own journeys.

We would like to thank everyone who joined our family at a Ukrainian Social to celebrate Anne's 100 years of love and laughter with her favourite polkas and Ukrainian treats. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who visited Anne, and to the staff of Golden West Centennial Lodge, especially the 5th floor, for their special care of "Baba Anne."

In accordance with Anne's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held with Monsignor Comeault officiating.
