RAYMOND (RAY) KEITH EDMAND It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Ray was born in Winnipeg on April 2, 1927. We were able to celebrate his 90th birthday together as a family last month. Ray is survived by Helen, his loving wife of 64 years; children, Greg, Arlene (Jeff), Murray and Bill; grandchildren, Melissa, Juline, Jordan, Scott (Taylor), Lisa (Korde) and McKenna; as well as great-grandchildren, Jayden, Aaryn, William, Jasmine, Owen and Mya. He is also survived by his sister Burnice Colvin and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Florence Edmand; siblings, Leora Homersham, June Wittick and Murray Edmand. Dad led an amazing life as a musician. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Training Command Band and retired as a Master Warrant Officer in 1977. He played in many bands, including the Ted Komar Band, Belgium Band and Memory Lane. He had the honour of playing for many celebrities. Many a young musician were lucky to have him as a teacher. His three loves were family, music and golf. He and mom were members of Breezy Bend for over 40 years. The snowbirds travelled south for 20 plus years in winter to play golf. Dad was a huge Bomber fan and cheered them on very loudly when they won the 1984 Grey Cup. He was known to turn off the TV in the middle of a game if they were playing badly. We thank him for giving us all that competitive spirit, good and bad. About three years ago, dad was diagnosed with dementia leading to Alzheimer's. Thank you to all the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for their utmost compassion and respect this past year. As per dad's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted for Golden West Centennial Lodge 2nd Floor or The Alzheimer's Society. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Ray was a verry good musician friend and fellow musician. We han both played with my dad Ted Komar Band on many concerts, recordings, and many tours both in Canada and the USA! We were as Ray had said roomies many times when we were on the road. Rest well my friend and god bless. To family i am very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Jeff Komar (gooo freind) on: Jun 07, 2017

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Ray as a mentor way back in 1979 as a young lad of 19 when I sat in with the Training Command Band for a week or so. More recently I played alto sax along side Ray for many years until he no longer was able to play to his excellent standard. I am pleased to continue to respect his legacy as a superb professional sax player (and coincidentally I have been a member at Breezy Bend for the last 5 years). Ray, rest in peace. - Posted by: Dave Nowosad (Bandmate) on: May 07, 2017

  • Had the pleasure of playing with Ray back in the day. (music and golf) Good musician and golfer, good guy. I will miss you my friend. RIP - Posted by: John Miller (Friend, colleague) on: May 06, 2017
