BETTY PASH (nee KAPLAN) Betty Pash passed away in Winnipeg on April 24, 2017 at the age of 94 years, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Pash, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by son Michael (Giezelle); grandchildren, Joel and Lindsay (Vic) and great-grandchildren, Layla and Riley, all of Calgary; daughter Ruth of Winnipeg, and sister-in-law Betty Jane Pash of Fresno, California and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney in 1969; son Ross in 2016; parents, Sam and Sarah Kaplan; sisters, Rose Elkin (Nathan) and Ann Fingerote (George) and brother Alec Kaplan (Clara). Born and educated in Winnipeg, she worked as a secretary in Winnipeg and Toronto. She met and married Sidney Pash in 1949 and was widowed at the young age of 46, necessitating that she look after her young family as a single mother as well as return to work, being employed until the age of 65 when she retired. She enjoyed spending time with family members and friends and looked forward to visits as well as family simchas. Always with a positive attitude and a smile on her face, she lived independently until the age of 91. After breaking her wrist and spending six months in hospital, where her physical health and cognition deteriorated, she moved into the Simkin Centre. She was well until several hours before her passing. She considered the Simkin Centre her "second home", enjoying the people, staff and activities there. Graveside Service was held on April 26, 2017 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery with Cantor Anibal Mass officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Pash, Joel Pash, Calvin Parks, Sidney Fingerote, Fraser Aronovitch, Neil Swirsky and Terry Gutkin. Shiva was observed in Calgary. The family would like to thank the staff on Simkin 1 North for their exemplary care over the past three and one half years. We would ask that donations in Betty's memory be made to the Chai Fund at the Simkin Centre (www.simkincentre.ca/giving), or to the charity of your choice.
