FLORENCE EVELYN MCDEVITT (nee WARD) 1923 - 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Florence McDevitt, at age 94, at Concordia Place. She is now forever with her Lord and Saviour. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Donald, her parents, John and Eveline Ward, her sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Jack Gillings and special friend, George Haacke. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Esther and Clarence Goetz, her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Lorraine Ward of Montreal, her step-son, Walter McDevitt, her granddaughter, Alexandria and her husband Larry McLaughlin, and great-granddaughters, Mikella and Kaia. Also remaining are Don's brother, David and sister Grace. Florence is also survived by nieces and nephews across Canada. Florence will be greatly missed by her special friends, David and Leanne (Haacke) Bardal and the Haacke family, who Florence thought of as her extended family. She will be missed by her dear friend Shirley (Patz) McKinley, who studied in Montreal and called Florence her 'Montreal Mom'. Florence was raised in Winnipeg and after high school, began a career as a physician's office assistant. In Montreal, she held several administrative positions. She met Don, the love of her life; they married and moved to Montreal. They enjoyed their life around the church and their cottage. When Don passed away, Florence returned to Winnipeg and moved into Fred Douglas Place. She was active in many of the social events there, in particular the knitting club. Many of her beautiful creations kept little children warm in the winter. Florence was active in Calvary Temple, in the 55 Plus Club, and would volunteer wherever there was a need. The family want to thank the staff at Concordia Place for their kind care of Florence. In honour of Florence, her funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Buntain Chapel, Calvary Temple at 440 Hargrave St., Winnipeg. Viewing will take place prior to the service. Special thanks to Ruth Grewe for her faithful visits to Flo. In lieu of flowers, and if friends so wish, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
