MELITA MARTELL (MATTHES) June 5, 1940 - April 2, 2017 After a lengthy illness, Mel passed away peacefully at Evergreen House, North Vancouver, B.C. surrounded by family. Mel challenged her illness with grace, dignity and optimism always maintaining a positive attitude. Throughout her illness and treatment Mel's main concern was never for herself but always for her family and how they were managing through this time. Mel is survived by her children Jon (Maryanne) of Langley, B.C., Roberta (Andrea) of Salt Spring Island, B.C. Lauree (Thom) of Los Angeles, CA. and step daughter Barbara of North Vancouver, B.C.; grand-children Caitlyn, Paige, Matthew, Avery, Kitson, Piper, Ever and Ayla; brothers Les (Marina) of Red Deer and Terry (Barb) of Winnipeg, and numerous nephews and nieces. Mel was predeceased by her parents Gus and Frieda Matthes and brother Jim. A special thanks to Dr. Sugar and his palliative care team, CancerCare B.C. and Barb, Bill and Connie for all their support. At Mel's request no service will take place. If so desired donations may be made to Dr. Paul Sugar Palliative Support Foundation, North Vancouver, B.C.   • Hi Auntie Melita, been awhile since last seen you at dad's funeral (Jim) I want to thank you for the phone calls and talks we had, then we lost touch "Korre's vanishing act" as usual always distancing my self from family feeling I don't belong keeping my problems to myself which I regret today at 56 think back wishing I had a closer relationship with all my family kin ❤️ Melissa and I and kids moved to Victoria, BC back in 2008 and I called you numerous times and even stopped in at your building to see if you were home for a surprise visit but no one was home and left messages on your answering machine a few times with no response, I got the feeling you were away somewhere for a vacation then maybe you were in a hospital some where for some reason and waited for a long while and tried calling again and your number was disconnected and that's when I checked obituary and seen you had joined Nana and papa and dad in heaven with God and Jesus I wish I could have known where to find you and come see you one more time ❤️ Thank you for being a concerned loving auntie and being there if I needed someone to talk during some of my hardtimes ❤️ I know you are all together now in heaven, hope you all will be with me when my time comes to leave this physical body and earth to greet me with love and understanding.
