DEAN ROBERT WITTICK Dean Wittick, age 63, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away at Riverview Health Centre on his birthday, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, after an accelerated and arduous battle with cancer. Dean is survived by his three loving daughters, Amanda (Dave) Dowbenko, Jane (Kevin) Swain, Heather Wittick, and his new granddaughter, Tessa Dowbenko. He leaves behind his brother, Al (Stella) Wittick and his nephews, Jason Hogg, Aaron (Rachel) Hogg, James (Kirsten Nitzsche) Wittick, Chris (Jessica) Wittick, and his great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stuart and June Wittick and his many aunts and uncles. Since his retirement from Manitoba Hydro in 2011, he spent his new-found leisure time golfing at Transcona Golf Club and Rossmere Country Club and daily coffee at Robins Doughnuts on Grassie Boulevard. He was a prolific and hyper-critical reader and was dedicated to perfecting his backyard oasis through his love of gardening. Dean's artistic creativity and handiness was evident by his pursuit of many homemade projects, including crafting Stradivarius-styled violins and backyard landscaping. Dean made many friends while travelling through Mexico and the Dominican Republic, as well as motorcycling through the United States and these encounters always led to many interesting adventures and colourful stories. Dean was also very generous with volunteering his time, money, and talents to those in need, and post-humously donated his body to the University of Manitoba's body bequeathal program. His greatest passion was his love of animals. Throughout his life, his dogs held a special place in his heart; his current dogs, Peanut and Norman, will miss him greatly. Dean's family would like to thank the many people who assisted him, especially in the last month, including his neighbours on Chelsea Avenue, Ted and Terry, Peggy Aitchison, Susan Tilleman, the W.R.H.A. Palliative Program, the many physicians, nurses, and health care staff at both St. Boniface Emergency Department and Riverview Health Centre. A celebration of Dean's life will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Grey Street United Church, 651 Sandhurst Avenue. Dean's expressed wish is to have any donations made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
