RAYMOND CHAN It is with sadness, the family of Raymond Sun Chan announce his peaceful passing, on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the age of 83 years. Remaining to cherish Dad's memory are his children and their families: Alfred (Brenda, Stefan, Kristen, Greg and Jen), Nancy (Terry and Alex) and Philip (Diane). He was predeceased by Mom (Lily). Dad arrived in Canada in 1957 and later met the love of his life, Lily. They married and raised their family in St. James. He worked primarily in the food hospitality business, which included operating restaurants of his own. Dad always put the needs of his family before himself. He was a tireless worker and an acclaimed Executive Chef, spending over two decades at the Viscount Gort in that capacity. In retirement, he moved to British Columbia in the early 1990s with Mom and our grandmother with the hopes the children would join them. With the passing of Mom and Grandma, Dad returned to Winnipeg in 2004 to be with his children and grandchildren. When not at work, Dad enjoyed going fishing with his family, watching football, the Jets and attending our many family gatherings. He enjoyed socializing with friends and playing mahjong. He also liked to travel and toured the upper Northwest and through the west coast of the U.S., Las Vegas and Mexico. A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
