MURDINA JOANNE BROWNLEE Born: February 22, 1924 Date Of Passing: May 16, 2017 The family of Murdina (nee MacKay) is deeply saddened to announce she passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at St. Boniface Hospital. Murdina will be greatly missed by her sons, Ian of Winnipeg, MB; and Philip (Sherry) of Edmonton, AB; and grandson Tommy of Edmonton, AB; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband William Richard (Dick) Brownlee, and her dear sisters, Ruby, Jean, and Donna. Murdina was born February 22, 1924 in Transcona, MB. She achieved a Bachelor of Science from the United College of Winnipeg (now the University of Winnipeg) and maintained an interest in medicine throughout her life. She raised her family in both Montreal and Winnipeg with husband Dick, who was a civil engineer with CN Rail. Murdina was active with the National Council of Women of Canada, and the Canadian Federation of University Women. She enjoyed her family, her pets, reading, art, current events, and trying her hand at writing. She was the keeper of family stories and loved nothing more than to share them with the next generation. Her door was always open to family members and she hosted many a family gathering. Her heart was with her only grandchild, Tommy, to whom she showed great love and kindness. A special thank you to the attentive and caring staff of St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Murdina during her final days. Her funeral service will be held Monday, May 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of one's choice.
