JOYCE SANDERS (nee CASSAN) Joyce Sanders, passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on Pembina Highway on May 18, 2017 at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2011. She is survived by her children, John and Kelly; as well as her siblings, Carole, Bob (Carole), Jim (Sonya), and Andy. She will be dearly missed by her lifelong best friend June (Town) Gray of Idaho and in-laws Gary and Betsy Beckstead. Joyce grew up in Brandon, and enjoyed regular holidays in Clear Lake. She worked at the golf course at Wasagaming in the summers as a teenager. After graduation, she worked at Eaton's in Brandon and drove a Ford Model A whose passenger door would fly open on certain corners. Later she moved to Winnipeg where she met our dad Jim while they both worked at Canada Packers. He told us that he soon knew that she was the love of his life. They married in 1954 and enjoyed a long and happy life together. Some of our friends said they liked to visit our home because we were like the family in "Leave it to Beaver". After Jim died, Joyce's Parkinson's worsened and eventually she had to move from her Mars Drive home of 50 years to the Golden Door Geriatric Centre where she was well cared for for two and one half years. She seemed to enjoy listening to her favourite song "The Way" by Fastball on headphones a few hours before her passing. Thanks to Dr. Jain. At Joyce's request, there will be no service. Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society.
