RICHARD JOHN DAYCOCK It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Richard Daycock. Rick died at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, after a short illness. Rick was born in Winnipeg on July 17, 1943. He obtained a B.SC from the University of Manitoba. He then worked in the administration of the university and later purchased a business in Camperville, Manitoba. In 1988 he was co-owner and later President of the Yacht Charter and Sailing School, Cooper Boating, Vancouver. Rick retired to Winnipeg. During the 1960s Rick was an officer in the R.C.N.R. He loved the Navy and made many friends. In these years he developed a keen interest in sailing and off shore- racing. He retained this interest and while with Cooper Boating he was a CYA instructor. Rick was predeceased by his parents William and Irene Daycock, and is survived by his two brothers Davis and William, and by his 13 nieces and nephews What remains is an abiding love and unperishable memory of this kind, generous and talented brother, uncle and friend. We shall always be grateful for the kindness of the staff at the Health Sciences Centre and at the Victoria General Hospital. Thank you so much. A memorial gathering for family and close friends will be announced at a later date.

  • So sorry to hear about Uncle Ricki, brother and friend. My heart goes out to family and friends - Posted by: Carol-Anne Browning (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2017

  • Davis/William, It was with great sadness that Russ Cape notified me of Rick's passing. Rick, Russ and I met about this time last year for lunch-the first time since Lt-Cdr. J.H. Lindford's funeral service. We reminisced, sharing a few "sea stories". I remember Rick as a quiet, confident UNTD Cadet Captain who displayed those leadership qualities that we expect to see in today's leaders. It is never easy to lose someone so close. I hope it gives you some comfort to know that others also grieve in the loss of this officer and a gentleman. With heartfelt condolences, Allan Zaleski, U-1766. - Posted by: Allan Zaleski (Fellow Sea Cadet/Officer Cadet) on: May 27, 2017
