BLANCHE LILLIAN VICKERS

(nee WONNACOTT)

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Blanche, our wife, mother and grandmother, on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the age of 93 years.

Blanche was born on July 28, 1923 in Winnipeg and spent her childhood living in East Kildonan. She fondly remembered her early years growing up skating, cycling and running with her brother and sisters. Her first job was working with the T. Eaton Company in the Jewellery Department. Blanche met the love of her life Harold at the historic Dance Hall in Grand Beach in 1948 and they married on September 15, 1951. Blanche was blessed with the arrival of Judy in 1953, followed a few years later by Jim in 1956 and became a full-time mother raising the kids and looking after the home in Winnipeg. The family moved to Pierrefonds, QC in 1970 when Harold took a move with Air Canada. She thoroughly enjoyed the time living there but was very excited when Harold retired in 1987 and they were able to move back to Winnipeg to be closer to family and become the Best Grandma ever to Amy and Matthew. Although preferring to stay home, close to family, Blanche enjoyed trips to Europe, The Caribbean, a cruise to Alaska as well as travelling coast to coast in both Canada and the United States.

Left to cherish Blanche's memories are her husband of 65 years, Harold; daughter Judy (Bill) Copper; grandchildren, Amy and Matthew; son Jim (Debbie) Vickers; sisters-in-law, Betty Walls and Joan Wonnacott as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gladys and Frank Wonnacott; sisters, Gladys and Edith; brother Frank; brothers-in-law, Jack Muirhead, George Walls, Ted Vickers and wife May, Bill Vickers and wife Joan and Gus Weger.

The family would like to thank the entire Misericordia 5th Floor Respite Team for the compassion and care given to Blanche during her final days. You will all be fondly remembered in our hearts.

Blanche was a very kind, caring and generous person - she cherished her family above all and we will all miss her dearly.

A private family Funeral Service to honour and remember Blanche will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
