JOHN ARTHUR RUDDOCK 1922 - 2017 John Arthur (Art) Ruddock passed away on May 31, 2017 in Kelowna, British Columbia, just two months short of his 95th birthday. For 71 years Art was the loving husband of Dorothy Alice. He was a wonderful father to Gail, Don, Brian (predeceased), George and Patricia; grandfather to Don Jr., Kelly, Joshua, Stuart (predeceased) Nathan and S. Aileen; great-grandfather to Brendin, Jason, Cameron, Ryan and Emma. During the Second World War, Art served overseas with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. In September 2016, he was recognized by the French government for his involvement in the liberation of France during the war. France awarded Art their highest National Order; the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour. Art stepped out of the military briefly when he returned to Canada after the war. Upon re-entering the Regular Forces, he became an Officer, and continued serving until his retirement in 1970. He stayed in the Reserves, ending his military career as a Major. After retiring from the military, Art worked for Winnipeg Cablevision until 1987. At that time Art and Dot headed west to Kelowna, where they have enjoyed their retirement years. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1910 Windsor Rd Kelowna on Wednesday June 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Gordon Fletcher officiating.
