AUDREY MARJORIE (PAT) MARRIOTT Following a brief illness, it is with sadness that we announce the passing of Pat, on June 4, 2017, peacefully at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, aged 82. She will be sadly missed, survived by her husband Keith, children, Neil and wife Brenda, Chris and Candice, Andrew and wife Yvette, grandchildren, Ryan and Alana, sister Barbara Jones, predeceased by parents, Joseph and Ida Kershaw, and brother Brian Kershaw. Pat was born in Stretford, Manchester, England within the sounds from the Old Trafford grounds of Manchester United Football Club. She was an avid fan and follower of ManU for the rest of her life. She went to college at Manchester Tech where she studied Industrial Photography. There, she met Keith due to their mutual love of tennis and table tennis. They were married in 1956 and lived initially in Bournemouth, Southern England. Sons, Neil (born in Manchester in 1963) and Christopher (born in Ashton-U-Lyne in 1965) arrived seven and nine years later. They eventually immigrated to Canada in 1966. They briefly lived in New Brunswick where Andrew arrived (born in 1968). Shortly after, due to a significant job offer for Keith, they moved to Winnipeg which became home. Then began the first of three significant phases of the Marriott family life. Summer camping trips in their Parkland tent trailer - first to the many beautiful areas around Winnipeg - and then exploring west to the Rockies, and eventually all the way to Vancouver Island. They developed a great appreciation of this glorious country. In 1977, a unique job opportunity for Keith had the family move to Argentina to work with Atomic Energy Canada Limited on the construction of a new nuclear station. While life was challenging in this new country, there were also many new adventures and friends to be made. Pat managed the language change very well and so did the children in the new school where speaking Spanish was essential. They travelled to many places, including Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu, and Rio de Janeiro. A highlight for the three boys was a two week summer holiday to a working cattle ranch where they learned to ride horses for the first time. After three years they returned to Winnipeg to the same house they had left. Pat was determined to find a cottage property near Winnipeg. After spending numerous camping stops at the McKay property at Hawk Lake in previous years, and searches throughout Manitoba and northwest Ontario, her persistence paid off. She was able to find a perfect lake side cottage at Hawk Lake near where we had camped previously and where the McKay and Macpherson families also had cottages. Their new life as cottage owners then began with many happy weekends, winters and summers, expanding and building docks, exploring and fishing. Once retired, entire summers were enjoyed at Hawk Lake, which felt more like their primary home. Many new friends were made. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 5Y4. The family wishes to offer special thanks to all the very caring staff at Grace Hospital (3 North).

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • A memorable part of our life was spent in close friendship with Pat and Keith. For 2 years, 1978 and 1979, we shared weekly, dinners at our homes and evenings out in Buenos Aires. Pat's meals were always great and our Saturday and Sunday afternoons around our swimming pools with our kids Bill and Mark and Pat's children were filled with laughter. I will never forget our Friday night outings for dinner polished off with Dom Diegos. These were followed by car races back to one or another of our homes with the kids and wives(?) cheering us on and then an evening in Pat's company sharing good time memories. Many other great memories of Pat and family still get shared with new friends. Our sincere condolences to Keith, Neil, Chris and Andrew Love to Keith and Family Terry & Marion Waters - Posted by: Terry & Marion Waters (Friend ) on: Jun 08, 2017
