GEORGE WILLIAM GUDGEON It is with sadness that the family of George Gudgeon announces his passing on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the age of 92 years. George passed peacefully after a brief illness while residing at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. George's memory will be cherished by his two daughters, Diane Kubas (Jim) and Pamela Moroz (John); grandchildren, Mark Kubas, Jennifer Kubas (Jonathan Friesen) and Katherine Moroz (Alex Helbren); great-grandchildren, Ben and Emily; nephew Terry Henfrey as well as nieces, Sherry Barnes and Linda Henfrey. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth of 70 years and sister Marjory. On October 17, 1924, George was born in Keewatin, Ontario. He had a happy childhood in Keewatin, exploring the area by foot, boat and bicycle, learning the clarinet and teasing his sister. He moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay) at the age of 16 and as soon as he was of age, he joined the Air Force. George was stationed in Moncton, New Brunswick where he met the love of his life "Ruthie". They were married in September, 1945 and returned west living for a short time in Keewatin. Soon after, they moved to Winnipeg so George could continue his education. He then established a successful career with Canada Packers for over 41 years. Upon his retirement, George continued to support his wife in her many causes. He loved travelling with his wife to visit her sisters and their many nieces and nephews across Canada, time at the cottage, gardening and most of all, time spent with his children and grandchildren. George's Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard, Winnipeg. Thank you to the staff of Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 5 and the TACT Unit for your compassionate care of our father. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Red Cross, 1111 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0S8, the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba, 247 Provencher Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G6 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
