RAMONA BARSY
Mom passed away at the age of 88 on May 14, 2017 in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg.
She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends: daughters, Sharron Pullin (Greg) and Marilyn Lorenz (Aaron); sons, Roger (Sandra), John (Sherri) and Pat (Melanie); daughter-in-law Faye; grandchildren, Mike, Paul, Diana, Travis, Ronan, Rachel and Talitha; great-grandsons, Ilija and Gabriel; brothers, Pat and Richard; sisters, Marguerite and Jenny and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew William in 1963, infant daughter June, son Rocky, grandson Ronald, sister Patsy and brother Michael.
Mom was born in Rainy River, Ontario, the eldest of the six children of Patrick and Eva (nee Thivierge) Byrnes. She and Dad married there in 1947 and started their family. They moved to The Pas in 1960.
In 1963, Dad passed away tragically and Mom faced the dual challenges of single motherhood to six children and becoming family breadwinner in a small town.
In 1972, she moved to Edmonton. While juggling the care of four children still in school, she worked closely with the founders of West Edmonton Mall (the Ghermezian Organization) in their hospitality division.
In 1977, she moved to Winnipeg. The group home settings of Macdonald Youth Services in Winnipeg and Marymound in Thompson were a perfect fit for her skills and natural abilities and life experience. Soon a whole new set of people were calling her "Mom" and she was a positive influence on many who kept in touch over the years.
After retirement Mom moved to St. Vital Knights Villa and enjoyed 25 years of good living making solid friends and participating fully in the resident community life. She loved her puzzles in the winter and her books and her coffee all the time.
Mom always displayed resilience and perseverance. She accepted with dignity the many losses and changes that life brings. Mom was a gifted storyteller and could make anyone laugh at her recounting of small everyday occurrences. With her excellent memory, one could be transported back to a kitchen table of 40 years ago to a funny event. The exploits of kids and grandkids were often repeated along with the achievements. She was constantly learning and easily managed on-line banking, email, social media and texting.
Her family are grateful to have had her support, friendship and wise counsel for so many years. "I've had a long and happy life" she said often during her final weeks.
At her request, no formal service was held and her ashes will be interred in her family plot in Rainy River, Ontario. Donations in her memory could be gratefully directed to Jocelyn House Hospice, 177 Egerton Road, Winnpeg.

Sorry about your Mom. She was a great help with the genealogy search into the Galipeau Family. Some of the pictures she provided were priceless to me. Rest in Peace Ramona. Rose - Posted by: Rose Calder (Cousin) on: Aug 24, 2017

Ramona was my foster mom, she took me in under her wing! She was the most loving and understanding lady and had the greatest laugh! She always told me her door was always opened to me no matter what time it was. I kept incontact with her later in the years but had not spoken in awhile! When I heard about her passing I was so sad.. I will always remember her saying wowwwwww😊! She molded me into the person I have become, and I thank her and her family for always being there for me! She will be sadly missed! My condolences to her family.. May she RIP love, Doreen. - Posted by: Doreen dracup (Foster daughter) on: Aug 19, 2017
