CHRISTOPHER SHAUGHNESSY O'GRADY September 19, 1939 - June 15, 2017 On Thursday, June 15, 2017, Christopher passed away at Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 77 years. Remaining to cherish Chris' memory is his beloved wife Louise; brothers, Brian and Dale and sisters, Alice (Glowatski), Elsie (McCabe) and Gail (Dowbush). He was predeceased by his brothers, Ken, Jim and Bruce and sisters, Betty (Boyce) and Kathy (Ritchie). Chris was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, the seventh child of William and Mary O'Grady. After graduating from Shoal Lake Collegiate, Chris graduated from the Manitoba Teachers College in 1958. He began his teaching career in the St. Charles School District at St. Charles School. After five years teaching, he became vice-principal at St. Charles and Buchanan Schools. He then joined the Assiniboine North School Division which amalgamated with the St. James School Division. His next assignments included principalships at Buchanan and Voyageur Schools, Deputy Assistant Superintendent of the St. James School Division and principal at Hedges, St. James Collegiate and John Taylor Collegiate Schools. After 36 enjoyable years, Chris retired from the teaching profession in June, 1994. His first years teaching at St. Charles School and the years he spent at Voyageur School, working with such professional and dedicated staff, brought him immense enjoyment. Chris was also delighted with all his other schools. He was very much a people person and enjoyed his associations with all the staff and colleagues he came into contact with over the years. After retiring from teaching, Chris and Louise spent many wonderful years in Mesa at Trail Riders Holiday Park - their home away from home. Chris has often said he was fortunate to have such a loving, supportive family and so many friends that have spanned a lifetime of such a wonderful life filled with great memories. In compliance with Chris' wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • Mr. O'Grady was my Principal in middle school, rather ironic I now work for the School Division. Mr. O'Grady and Mr. Narrick both left me with good, kind memories. They were kind, firm and made my middle school years relatively pleasureable. My deepest condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Alison Hunt (Student) on: Aug 11, 2017

  • In the early seventies I was fortunate enough to be on the teaching staff of Voyageur School where Chris O'Grady was the Principal. What a wonderful educational experience he provided for all of us. His considerable leadership combined with his affability enhanced the school/community situation. He was able to challenge and bring out the best in his students and staff. He was simply - an inspiration, and an excellent influence on many, many people. I will be remembering Chris with much respect and admiration. - Posted by: Marilyn Huber (Professional Associate) on: Jun 25, 2017

  • Mr. O`Grady taught at St. Charles School from the time I was in grade one till I left for high school. He was very young and very handsome. I`m afraid I had a big crush one him and was one of his many admirers who trail him around the school yard. He was strict but fair and his love of the students was evident. When I think back over my days as a student, he is always remembered with great affection. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Sharon Lepine nee Brown (student) on: Jun 21, 2017

  • I am saddened to hear of Chris's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with you, Louise. Chris had the most supportive, honest and caring manner about him and you always felt proud to be among the teachers on his staff. He and Louise made a wonderful couple and when meeting them unexpectedly, they were always genuinely happy to see you and catch up. I shall always have fond memories of my teaching days with Chris O'Grady! - Posted by: Alene Whitlaw (colleague and friend (Hedges Junior High)) on: Jun 20, 2017

  • I had the honor of having Chris as my teacher in grades 7 and 8 at St. Charles School, I believe it was his lst teaching job. I have had the pleasure of meeting up with him several times over the years. Once at one of his brothers wedding, at a gathering of St. Charles school students a couple of years ago. And I met up with him in a bank in Mesa, Arizona, small world. He was such a kind, gentle man, and an amazing teacher. I will always remember him fondly...Rest in peace - Posted by: Janet Hagen (Spiring) (student, friend) on: Jun 19, 2017

  • Chris was my teacher in St. Charles public up to 1964. He was one of the best and most respected teacher that myself and my fellow students had the privilege to be associated with. When I and some of my old school mates would meet in Winnipeg we would invite Chris to join us and remember times gone by. I feel truly grateful to have had the opportunity to know Mr. O'Grady - Posted by: Sid Peltier (Student st. Charles public school ) on: Jun 17, 2017

  • So sorry to learn that Chris has passed away. I will always remember him and be thankful to him for being so very supportive at a time when things were extremely stressful. A very fine person who I had the great pleasure of working alongside. I never felt that I worked for Chris but rather with him. Grand memories of a grand guy.
