IVAN BERKOWITZ Ivan Berkowitz, born November 23, 1936, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2017. Ivan will be sorely missed by his family and many friends cultivated over his 80 years. Memorial service to be held at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Ave. at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

  • I met Ivan over 30 years ago at the Refit centre and the Running club "Doug and the Slugs". Ivan used to organize us all, including Run for the Lights duting the holiday season. He was also the "slepper" who would go plant water prior to our ling runs. Selfless. Ivan organized our club who ran over to my outdoor wedding from Trout Lake to Catastrophe- 27 years ago. He and some fellow runners flew over to France and ran the Medoc marathon, in costume sampling wine at wine chateaux along the way. Every visit to Winnipeg would always be met by a pottery creation ny him for me and my family members. Common theme- adventurous, fun- loving, caring and selfless.   • Deepest condolences to Ivan Berkowitz's family and many friends and global network of cardiovascular sciences. He was a staunch promoter of research and advances in heart health in Canada and worldwide. His work at the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Institute and his devoted commitment to Dr. Naranjan Dhalla and his leadership role in health research at the University of Manitoba will be remembered for years to come.
