MAUREEN BOURBONNAIS Peacefully, on June 17, 2017, Maureen Bourbonnais (née McMullan), aged 97, passed away at Meadowood Manor. Maureen was born in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland on May 27, 1920. After a two year administrative training diploma, she worked for the post office in London, England during the Second World War. It was there that she met and married her husband Lucien Bourbonnais. On May 12, 1945 they were married in London, England. They settled in Winnipeg to raise their family. Throughout the years she worked at the St. Boniface Hospital and Norwood School. She gave her time for over 60 years as a volunteer in the Catholic Women's League, the British Wives' Club and The Age and Opportunity Center to name but a few of the many community organizations she was active in. Maureen loved to play cards and socialize but most of all, she loved to be involved in the lives of her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her recent great-great-granddaughter. She is predeceased by her husband, Lucien (d 1976), father, Patrick McMullan, mother, Catherine (née McCann), and her brothers and sisters, John, Ellen, Patrick (Patsy), Francis (Frank), Bridget (Bridie), and Hugh. Maureen is dearly remembered by her sister Isobel and brother Tom (Patricia); her children: John, Paul (Dianne), Eric (d. Marilyn 2001), and Brenda (Michel); her grandchildren: Bridget (Mike), Shannon (Sean), Rod (Lori), Dawn (Darcy), Jared (Jenny), Tom (Jenn), Jed, Michael (Connie), Collette, Crystal, and Geneviève; by her great-grandchildren; Rylan, Kyle, Nolan, Olivia, Willow, Echo, Andrew (Becky), Elliot, Oliver, Grace, Rachel, Eli, Taylor, and Abigail; her great-great-granddaughter, Ivy; as well as Diane Bourbonnais and many extended family members here in Canada and in Northern Ireland. Funeral services will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, MB, on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a short reception to follow at the church. She will be laid to rest during a private burial at the St. Boniface Cemetery. The family would greatly like to thank the staff and caregivers at Meadowood Manor for the kindness and generosity of human caring throughout her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Amant Centre, or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I always remember Aunt Maureen's visits. When I was young it always seemed so glamourous to have an aunt visiting from Canada. And indeed she was glamorous and beautiful. But she was always Irish. I loved her accent just slightly tinged with Canadian. Funny I particularly remember the way she said eh? at the end of a sentence. A truly lovely spirit. I only wish I had the opportunity to visit her in Canada. But who knows I may yet get to visit her family, my cousins and their families. I know her passing will have caused great sorrow but what lovely memories of a beautiful woman, the baby of the McMullan clan. Now there's only Isobel and Thomas left. I have no doubt that she rests in peace. What a privilege that she was with you for all those years xx - Posted by: Mary Cargan (Neice) on: Jul 01, 2017

  • My first memory of Aunt Maureen was a visit to us when we lived in Wales. I remember this glamorous vivacious lady with a wonderful accent and name. She was like a movie star. Though I never met her again, it was great my Mum and Dad had fabulous holidays in Canada and I've many photos to look at now. Aunt Maureen welcomed our daughter Sophie when she was travelling across Canada and we connected then and since in phone chats. What a great lady. Love from the Australian family. - Posted by: Moira Brauer (Niece ) on: Jun 20, 2017

  • Happy memories of Auntie Maureen's many trips to Glenravel (Co Antrim N.I.) her home place. The parties we all enjoyed, a little drop of Irish Mist, the songs we sang, the jigs & reels we danced and the many stories she told of her long and wonderful life. May she now be reunited with her husband, brothers and sisters and be singing and dancing in heaven with them. May she rest in peace from all her many nieces and nephews in Ireland x x - Posted by: Vera Hegarty (Niece) on: Jun 20, 2017
