Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Peter was like our second father. He was our neighbour for 41 years. I feel as though I should know more about cars, electricity and carpentry! We used to follow him around as kids, handing him tools and asking him a million questions about anything he was working on. He always gave us the answers and let us get our hands dirty! Going to miss you being the only other man besides my Dad calling me "Tan!" Love you, Tan - Posted by: Tannis Tilston-Jones (Neighbour) on: Jun 29, 2017

  • I am shocked and surprised to learn of Peter's passing. Our condolences to you Shelley, Peter and Cathy for your loss. I regret that I did not get to know Peter, Shelly, Peter and Cathy better, as we have always been separated by so many miles. I love the picture, as it shows his no messing around personality, as well as the strong resemblance to his mother Odette. I was strongly impacted by the stories I heard from Odette of her years in Winnipeg (and at "the lake") and Arabia, most of which included young Peter and many of his extraordinary adventures. He will be missed by many, but will live on through the inspiration he has been to you Shelley, Peter and Cathy. Our hearts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. • We have known Peter for 41 years. He was the best neighbor and friend that anyone could have. He always the first one to offer help with any problems anyone of his neighbors had. He was like the older brother I never had. I always loved to hear the sounds of the saws coming from his back yard as Peter was working on another project. There was nothing Peter Herbert could not do or fix. We are going to miss him very much. God Bless you Peter. - Posted by: Trev & Eve Tilston_Jones (Next Door Neighbor but just like family) on: Jun 26, 2017

  • I am so sorry to hear of Peter's passing. Our family lived directly across the street on Fulham Crescent and knew Peter on a childhood friends' basis! We knew his grandmother in particular, and also his Mom. We all have great childhood memories of baseball games on the street before it got dark - Jeff Hamilton would remember those - and Peter was in many of my classes at Carpathia School. Our condolences to the immediate family - life is so short - memories are the legacy. - Posted by: Heather Hunter () on: Jun 24, 2017

  • I spent some time this morning reminiscing on days gone by. Although each of us takes a different fork in the road, we can always look back to earlier days for a good laugh and I, for one, am fortunate to have many of those memories. Pete was in most of them. My sincere condolences to the family, - Posted by: Dal McCloy () on: Jun 24, 2017

  • Yes Pete was my third brother throughout all of our school years. We both had a great friend Jeff Hamilton. We did everything daily as a Trio. Walked and biked to Carpathia, J.B. Mitchel, Kelvin High. We loved sports and made all the teams in Carpathia, J B Michel, and some in Kelvin High School. We won the Grade 5 City Championship and second place in Grade 6 Championship Pete was brilliant speed skater in Junior and and High School he won many races in his age group. Pete was a brilliant Junior curler at the Granite Club. We were there when his grandfather passed on the ice doing. His beloved sport! The Graniters spread all their curling Granite sweaters around him on the ice and it was a grand gesture to do for his grandfather. - Posted by: Rick Byquist (Third Brother during our all of school years ) on: Jun 24, 2017
