CHRISTOPHER McKECHNIE January 1, 1932 - June 18, 2017 On Father's Day, we lost our father Chris McKechnie. He leaves behind two daughters, Deborah-Lynn, Colleen, one son Andrew; many grandchildren Amanda, Michael, Steven, Britany, Kiera and Richelle. Thank you with all my heart to the doctor and staff in ICU at the Grace for keeping him comfortable. Thanks to HomeCare staff who helped him with his needs. Special thanks to the residents of Autumnhouse for making him feel welcome. He loved helping people in anyway he could. His life's passion was cooking and gardening. He always had advice how to grow the best tomatoes. You will be missed, but never forgotten. ONE FINAL GIFT Scatter me not to the restless winds Nor toss my ashes to the sea. Remember now those years gone by When loving gifts I gave to thee. Remember now the happy times The family ties are shared. Don't leave my resting place unmarked As though you never cared. Deny me not one final gift For all who came to see. A single lasting proof that says I loved and you loved me. D.J. Kramer

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Met Chris in 1959, FOB Winnipeg, 4 transport company. Being single, he kind of adopted me and had many visits with wife Flo and family while stationed there. He lived in trailer Park, Fort Garry I believe. We fished, duck hunted many times. One trip to area north of Winnipeg, he hit a rock and I went thru windshield. Drove me to hospital for numerous stitches. In 1967, our unit moved to Calgary but Chris opted to stay in Wpg. We lost contact for many years but after me wife's passing, me retired, I drove across Canada to renew contacts. Met Chris, who lived alone with a heel biting dog and thereafter met him many times. Ironically, my widowed cousin lived not far so saw Chris often. Approx. 5-6 yrs ago, I stopped with my wife but was no answer. A young student walked to home and said they lived there so lost contact. Living part time in Vietnam, I curiously open free press to check obits. There was Chris, never changed. Condolences to the 2 daughters and son. We had numerous fun times In military and out. RIP Chris. - Posted by: George (Military Friend) on: Dec 13, 2024

  • I got locked out then I have to send once again. Chris lived next door to my parents on Markham road. I had met Chris several times going from Alberta to Manitoba - Winnipeg. He was full of laughter and had a beer for you. Two dogs were barking but that was ok. All the best to the family for we all must go to our Christ one day. All the best for you all for I remember Chris from time to time. Best regards: Doug Scott. - Posted by: Doug Scott (Friend) on: Jun 26, 2017
