THELMA JEAN MAJOR (nee POST) February 14, 1933 - June 20, 2017 It is with sadness that we announce that peacefully, and with her children by her side, Mom passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Thelma leaves to mourn her three children, Kriss (Ron), Paul (Jan), Mark (Cindy), and her grandchildren, Tyler, Gray, Kati-Lynn, Madi and Ian. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Paula, her parents, Christine and Jack (John) Post, her sister Helen MacDonald, brothers, John Post and Robert Post, and dearest friend Audrey Richardson. She is survived by her loving siblings, David Post (Hamilton, ON) and Mary DiCicco (Guelph, ON). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and long-time friend Hugh Richardson. Thelma Jean Post was born near Hamilton, ON, but spent most of her years before she married in Guelph, ON, which she always referred to as "Home". As a young woman she enjoyed roller skating and playing basketball. Mom also enjoyed playing violin and Hawaiian guitar. She was quite an artist as well and enjoyed sketching and painting. Thelma worked at the University of Guelph as a secretary, and it was there that she met a student of Veterinary Medicine, Ross Major. They married on February 1 of 1958 and after Ross's graduation moved to Kenora, ON. It was there that their daughter Kriss was born. Soon after, they moved to Springfield, MB, just outside of Winnipeg, where they started a small farm. Paul and Mark were born soon after. Mom remained on the farm and spent the rest of her life falling in love with her country property, gardens and house, and raising her three children on her own. She worked at a few jobs, initially to support her family. She then settled into a job she enjoyed and ultimately retired from many years later. She worked for the Marriot Corporation as the Food and Banquet Manager for Harbour View Golf Course. She took great pride in organizing weddings and events, and loved the people that she worked with and managed there. After her retirement Mom lived in her home independently and on her own terms, with the aid of her family. She enjoyed simple things: her solitude, the regular calls from brother David, a drive along the river to Lockport for a hot dog, getting her hair done by her friend Robert, and the constant coming and going of her family. She loved the company of her dogs and more recently her cat, Tara. Christmas at Mom's / Grandma's was legendary, with everyone coming home to stay no matter how big the family grew. We never knew how she managed to organize it all, but there was no place else any of us wanted to be on Christmas morning, and usually for a few days after. We couldn't fulfil Mom's wish to die in her "own little house" and so her remaining two months of life were spent in the care of the nurses, staff and doctors at Concordia Hospital. Our deepest thanks go out to all of you from Thelma's family. Very special thanks to Dr. Kathy Knezic. Your compassion, care and kindness to Mom and our family will not be forgotten. Thelma requested that there be no service. Cremation has taken place. Family will gather for a Celebration of Life at a later date. If friends wish, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
