GLADYS MARION CARTER (nee BRIDAL) After a brief illness, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on June 20, 2017. She was a strong, independent woman with just enough stubbornness to believe she could live to 110 until this sudden, devastating illness took her from us far too soon. Mom was born in Clearwater, Manitoba on August 5, 1932 and spent most of her early years in Crystal City. She often told us stories about growing up with her nine brothers and sisters on the family farm, and how much she loved her special horse, Babe. She moved to Winnipeg in the early 1950s where she met and married our father, Arthur. They had five children, three of whom died in childbirth (Audrey 1955; Cheryl 1958; and Alan 1960). Mom will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Ramona (Lloyd) and Rhonda (Rick); the "sunshine of her life", grandson Brent (Crystal) and great-granddaughter Avery; as well as her eldest son Jack, with whom she was reunited in 2012. She will also be dearly missed by her sisters, Joyce and Eleanor, and brother Mort (Virginia), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her parents, Lulu and Clifford Bridal, her brothers, Jack, Tom, Harry, Ken and Vern, and her sister Betty. Mom's favourite interests could be summed up in just a few words: family, old-time country music (especially Johnny Cash), curling, and casinos, in that order. Her generosity was boundless. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or share her cooking and baking with family and friends. Her meatballs and perogies were always a hit at family functions. She will miss her many friends, as well as her coffee pals at McDonald's in the early mornings... she loved the joking and camaraderie. She thought of all of you when she was no longer able to walk there this past winter. Thank you to the caring staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and a special thank you to her favourite family physician, Dr. Van Rooyen, for your care over the years. An informal celebration of Mom's life will take place at 12:00 p.m. on June 29, 2017 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. There will be an open mic if you'd like to share your stories of Mom. A private family interment will take place. If you wish, a donation in Mom's memory may be made to D'Arcy's Arc, or a charity of your choice. Mom, you will be in our hearts forever. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Gladys was a lovely person to know who was our neighbor at our apartment complex. She was known for all the decorating she did on our third floor open area (which she always did beautifully - doing it from season to season). You could often see her sitting in that area talking to different folks. She will be greatly missed. Our sympathy goes out to all of her family and friends. - Posted by: Dorrie Kitchen (friend) on: Jun 24, 2017
