ROBERT (BOB) GESZLER HEKL With sadness in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Robert Geszler Hekl (Bob) on June 20, 2017, at the young age of 79. He leaves behind his two daughters, Kimmie Jo (Alain) and Karen Mae (Gord); his sister Loretta; special companion and friend Nicole; plus numerous nieces and nephews, and his most important sidekick who was with him at all times, Dicky or Pooky as Dad liked to call him. He was predeceased by mother and father Vi and Frank Hekl, and wife Arlene Hekl (McEvoy). Dad spent most of his career as a self-employed truck driver for various companies, with the most years at Johnson Construction Materials. He was well known and liked by his co-workers and contractors, he was known for being a hard worker, efficient and had a great sense of humour. When the work day was through, Dad was known to be out doing some kind of sports or activities, he was either dancing on the weekend, playing shuffleboard, playing cards, or watching the Yankees play. He loved all sports and in his younger years till now, he played and excelled in them all: baseball, hockey, shuffleboard, bowling, horseshoes, curling, bocce ball, dancing, just to name a few. Please come and celebrate Dad's life with us. We invite you to come down to enjoy the memories and share stories of Dad as you knew him. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 7, 2017 1:00 p.m. at the A.N.A.F. (Army, Navy, Air Force), 3584 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. If you are wanting to speak at this event please contact Kim or Alain at khekl@shaw.ca or leave a message with Karen at Bob's place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

My love to family. He will rest in peace and has probably already formed a slow pitch team iofangels Long lost friend Glennis Kendall - Posted by: Glennis kendall (Fruend) on: Jul 04, 2017

  • I first met Robert and Loretta when I started grade 1 at St Avila School in St Norbert. Bob and I spent many good years together especially hunting sparrows with our sling shots and bb guns. At that age we weren't birdwatchers. We graduated from hunting birds and rafting in the swollen creeks to girls as we became teenagers. Bod definitely liked his sports. In fact at one of his bowling banquets he took me as his date. He said there would be a lot of young single girls there. He was right. I met my wife of 52 years at that very banquet. We even stood up for one another at our weddings. We moved to BC in 1965 and sadly we drifted apart. We did get to see Bob and Kim about 5 years ago. Sadly that was the last time. Rest in peace my old friend. At this age most of us won't be too far behind you. Deepest sympathy to Kim, Karen and Loretta.
