DOROTHEA E. CHISHOLM Dorothea E. Chisholm, 101, died on June 30, 2017 at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held, on a date to be announced, at Christ Church Anglican, 750 Fairway Drive, Southern Pines, NC. Born in 1916, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Dorothea was the daughter of Walter and Freda Tait. Dorothea graduated from the Riverbend School for Girls, Winnipeg, Manitoba; the University of Manitoba (class of 1937) where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity; and the University of Toronto graduate school of Social Work, where she was elected to Pi Gamma Mu Honour Society. She wed Alexander B. Chisholm (deceased 2006) of Oakville, Ontario, in 1940. They moved from Canada to the United States in 1946. They lived in Meadville, PA; Wallingford, PA; Rumson, NJ; Belgrade, Yugoslavia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Pawley's Island, SC. Their children are Andrea Chisholm of Southern Pines, NC, and Alison Chisholm (Hanham) (deceased 2011) of Carmichaels, PA. In 2007, Dorothea moved to Waynesburg, PA. In 2013, she moved to live with her daughter Andrea in Southern Pines, NC. Dorothea loved cats, dogs, good food, entertaining, reading, knitting, travel, and learning languages when living abroad. She made friends wherever she went. She visited many countries, including Serbia, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Peru, Mexico, and Ecuador. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Greene County, PA, or to First Health Hospice in Pinehurst, NC. Powell Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines, NC is assisting the family.
