MARVIN GRANT SCHETTLER After a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer, Grant Schettler passed away at the Abbotsford Hospital on Monday, June 19, 2017. Grant was born on May 2, 1950 to Jackie and Della Schettler. He was raised in Plumas, Manitoba and went on to earn his Masters Degree in Education. He taught in Morden and Elkhorn, Manitoba. In Elkhorn he was the principal. He moved to British Columbia in the 1980s and taught in Mission. He found his niche while working with students at risk. As a young man he was involved in hockey. He played for the Portage Terriers and really enjoyed coming back to Manitoba in 2016 to watch the Terriers win the RBC Cup. He played rec hockey with the Wasted Nights in Abbotsford. Grant loved to attend car shows in his '64 Corvette with his friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, and his wife Brenda (Collins). He will be sadly missed by his brother Lorne (Joanne), his partner Jan, special cousins Della and John, several nieces and nephews, and Brenda's family.

  • We miss you Grant. The many emails we sent to each other were a constant reminder of the importance of friends from back home. There is a void in our evenings as we think of you when we send our emails. We did enjoy the trip to Calgary many years ago with you and Brenda to visit with your cousin Howard. Those were good times. Larry remembers all the fun you had in Scouts. Rest in peace Grant Rose and Larry Porosky - Posted by: Larry and Rose Porosky (Friends from Plumas) on: Jul 21, 2017

  • Grant's passing has left such a huge hole in our lives. We miss him so much in our neighborhood, From the car tinkering to the beer drinking on the driveways, Grant was always there to share in the camaraderie! Going to car shows has lost a lot of the attraction without Grant there to drive his Corvette, in the midst of all our other car show cars on our little lane. Together we had solved all the world problems, lol and probably created a few of our own. Grant will always be a cherished memory in our lives, our world was so totally blessed with his friendship! Joyce remembers how extremely happy Grant was with his Corvette when she took this picture of him with it in from of our house, We had so many great days like that with him. He was so blessed to have two wonderful women in his life, first Brenda and then Jan, and he always remembered his teaching days with great love of his job. Grant was truly the greatest friend and someone that John called "Brother" and visa versa, To say we miss him is a huge understatement!!! We'll cherish his memory forever!!! - Posted by: John & Joyce Sprietsma (Close Neighbors) on: Jul 11, 2017

  • Deepest sympathy from the Coutts family in Plumas. Cherish your memories!! - Posted by: Leanne Saunders (Coutts) (Plumas resident) on: Jul 10, 2017

  • I am shocked and devasted to hear of Grant's passing. I was friends with Brenda & Grant for many years after meeting Brenda when we both worked at Manitoba Health Services. We shared many fun times in Winnipeg, and weekends in Morden & Elkhorn that I will always cherish. We lost touch after they moved to BC but I reconnected with Grant during his visit to Manitoba a year or so ago and we had a fabulous evening remembering old times and laughing til the wee hours! My thoughts are with his family and friend Jan as you come to terms with losing such a wonderful person. - Posted by: Sandy Braden (Friend) on: Jul 10, 2017

  • Mr. Schettler was my Grade 8 Social Studies teacher in Morden. He wore denim overalls to class, he was fun, he gave students nicknames--and he taught us all that "Plumas was God's country". I'm so sorry to hear the sad news of his passing. To his family and friends, know that he will be remembered and remembered well... - Posted by: A. Petkau (Student) on: Jul 09, 2017
