JUANITA (NITA) LOAT It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Nita Loat on Saturday, July 1, 2017. Nita was predeceased by her parents, Marion and Russell Loat, and her brothers, Gordon and Norman. She is survived by her lifelong friend Del Elin, her brother David (Marilyn), sisters-in-law, Raija, Lynn, Sherry and Lynda, her nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Tracy), Brian (Tammy), Chris (Sarah), Jim (Marg), Jennifer (Roy), Colin and Allison, as well as her great nieces and nephews. She will also be lovingly remembered by Del's family, and her many friends. Nita was born on May 3, 1936, in Swan River, Manitoba. As a very young woman, she moved to Winnipeg to attend teachers' college. Nita began her teaching career in Flin Flon, Manitoba. During these years, Nita immersed herself in local community activities by joining choir, hockey and curling organizations, creating lifelong friends and memories. Upon returning to Winnipeg, Nita completed her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Manitoba. She taught in the Fort Garry area as a dedicated classroom teacher, resource specialist, and administrator, until her retirement. Nita's love of nature led her to many enjoyable years of camping, and eventually, cottage ownership at Caddy Lake. Here, Nita and Del entertained their friends and family, creating wonderful memories for all who visited. Nita loved to travel, and spent many winters exploring warmer climes. She also enjoyed a good road trip, and was always up for a new adventure. At home, Nita and Del enjoyed and supported local arts and sports, having season tickets to the WSO, MTC, and the Goldeyes. Nita took great pleasure in her yard, her rose garden, and the visiting birds. In her lifetime, she cherished the company of her many faithful dogs. Nita was a woman of faith, and so, her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, or to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Miss Loat was a creative, enthusiastic and kind teacher. I have many wonderful memories- one was of the Apollo 13 landing. She brought a little black and white TV into the classroom so we could witness this historic event, which we had yet to fully understand. We coloured "Aloha"/ welcome home posters designed by her and printed with the Gestetner. My sincere condolences to her loved ones. - Posted by: Louise Buelow-Smith (Grade 3 Pupil, Crane School 1969-70) on: Jul 07, 2017

  • Nita was a good friend and supportive colleague. I worked with her at Ryerson and Chancellor. We will miss her newsy Christmas letters. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. Bev and Wayne Smith - Posted by: Beverley Smith (friend) on: Jul 07, 2017
