RONALD WOLFE Ron Wolfe died peacefully on June 10, 2017, corresponding to the 17th day of Sivan in the Jewish calendar, at the age of 81 years. Left to mourn his loss are his wife, Carole Wolfe, his children, Sherry Wolfe Elazar (Patrick), Randy Wolfe (Bev Werbuk) and Brent Wolfe (Sheryl Bergman), as well as his grandchildren, Charley and Jana Elazar, Rachel, Naomi, Ilana, Sarah and Eva Wolfe. He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Ruth Wolfe, and his sister, Carol Gaynor. His pallbearers, Sherry, Randy and Brent Wolfe, Patrick Elazar, Charley Elazar and Rick Faintuck, lovingly laid him to rest. Accompanying him to his final resting place were honorary pallbearers, Arnold Faintuck, Morley Slonim, Ben Hochman, Les Marks and Mel Meyers. Ron was born in Winnipeg on September 27, 1935. He grew up in the north end of Winnipeg where he lived his entire life. He attended Machray, William White, and St John's Tech schools. The stories of his youthful escapades were legendary in our family. He was a lifelong athlete. During his youth, he played basketball and ran track. Later, he curled and was a passionate golfer. The golf course was truly his sanctuary on earth. During his teenage years, he developed leadership skills at the YMHA and was very grateful for the mentoring that he received by the leaders of the Y at that time. This experience led to Ron's lifelong dedication to community service. He volunteered for many organizations throughout his life. He had a great impact on many young boys in the 1970s as convener and coach for the West Kildonan Bantam Football League. Later he was a Big Brother, volunteered for Jewish Child and Family Services and the Seven Oaks Senior Program, to name a few. Ron owned Wolfe's Iron Works and his beautiful ornamental iron railings grace the homes and porches of many homes in Winnipeg. As a draftsman, the detailing and artistry of his architectural drawings reflected his immense talent in being able to bring the concept of a design to reality. He was an artist who worked in paints and charcoal, and his pictures are displayed in the homes of all of his family. He was an avid reader of Jewish and world history and his knowledge was shared with his family around the dinner table for decades. Ron knew no greater joy than when his family gathered together for Shabbat and holiday dinners. Ron married the love of his life, Carole Binder, and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Carole took special care of Ron throughout their entire life together, especially in the last difficult few months of his life. Her dedication to him was a testament to their deep love for each other and an inspiration to all of us. Heartfelt thanks go to the Manitoba Prostate Clinic staff at CancerCare, particularly Dr. Karvalas, nurse Jennifer and Dr. Choudhury. Ron's family will always remember your personal attention and compassion. Special thanks to nurse Tamara Hiller from the Palliative Home Care Services who helped to guide our family through Ron's last days. Thank you to the staff at Riverview for the gentle and attentive care that Ron received. Appreciation goes to Rabbi Green and the clergy at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and Cantor Len Udow of Temple Shalom for your support during this difficult time. Ron was a passionate advocate for summer camp experiences for youth. Donations in Ron's memory can be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba towards the Jewish Community Campership Fund. May his memory be a blessing.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I'm so sad to learn of Ron's passing. I was thinking of him and was hoping to reconnect with him via social media. During my search I found out that he had passed over a year ago and was immediately filled with regret for not having tried to make the connection earlier. He was one of the most decent and kind human being that I have ever met in my life. Playing golf and spending time with him was a pleasure and joy. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Manfred Hildebrandt (Friend, fellow golfer at Bel Acres) on: Oct 29, 2018
