SHIRLEY ELEANOR MUIR 1930 - 2016 Shirley Eleanor Muir (née Ditchfield), passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital on July 15, 2016. She was surrounded by her husband of 62 years, Jack, and her loving family. She is survived by sister-in-law Vera Ditchfield, nieces, Linda McLean (Barrie Lough) and Karen Ditchfield, nephews, Glen Ditchfield (Helen Cameron) and Todd (Andrea) Ditchfield, niece-in-law Marcie McLean, great-nieces, Laura Cumming, Dawn Machel, Courtenay McLean (Dean Clayton) and Amanda Wiecek, great-nephews, Tyler McLean (Julie), Cameron Ditchfield and Ben Wiecek, and many great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Margaret Ditchfield, sister Eileen (Don) McLean, brothers, Doug (Carita) Ditchfield and Fred Ditchfield, and nephew Gordon McLean. Shirley was born in Winnipeg and graduated from Gordon Bell High School. She married Jack in 1954 and their life together was an adventure that was full of travel, poodles and family. Together they lived in Winnipeg and Vancouver coming back to Manitoba for their retirement; first Pinawa and then Dugald. Their homes were always filled with family and friends as she loved to entertain. Shirley worked for General Motors Corporation for many years and loved the challenge of finding missing cars. During her time in Vancouver she was very active in provincial politics working on the campaign for Premier Bill Bennett. Volunteering was something Shirley was passionate about and she was the President of the Manitoba Reunion at the World Expo in 1986 which she also turned into a fundraiser for Variety Club International and the Salvation Army. Shirley's love of animals led her to volunteer at the Vancouver Aquarium much to the delight of her great-nieces and great-nephew who were able to feed the buluga whales due to her service there. Shirley loved to travel and her favourite places were Paris, Palm Springs and Phoenix. She loved dogs and her and Jack had many join their family over the years. At the time of her passing, her last poodle, 5-2, was in her room with her. Shirley also had a passion for gardening with gorgeous yards filled with flowers in Vancouver and Pinawa (when the deer were not eating it) and her beautiful patio in Dugald. When she wasn't gardening or spending time with family, she was watching the news or sports, with curling and hockey being her favourites. The family would like to thank Selkirk General Hospital for the excellent care the doctors and nurses gave to her and to the family. We will miss her more than words can say. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Shirley's life at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., on Monday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's name may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
