ELAINE STUBSON November 21, 1929 - June 30, 2017 Elaine Stubson died as peacefully and quietly on June 30 as she had lived her gentle life. Her final words to one of her children the night before she died was "I love you". This symbolizes the love and care that she provided to her family and friends throughout her life. Her son-in-law always called her "Country Mama", and dozens of people in several provinces saw her as a close friend, mother figure, and someone who prayed for and with many people. She had a large network of people she kept in touch with by phone and mail. Her calendar was filled with the birthdays and anniversaries of many people from far and wide. Even in the three months of illness before her death, she never complained and was always appreciative and cooperative toward her caregivers. Elaine was born on the family farm near Torquay, Saskatchewan, the youngest of four girls. Her sister Evelyn died at a young age, but Elaine maintained a close relationship with her other two sisters, Edith Douglas and Ruby Forrester, throughout her life until their passing in recent years. She attended Briercrest Bible Institute for two years and then began working as a telephone operator. She worked with Martha Stubson, who introduced her to her brother John. Romance blossomed and they were married in 1957. John and Elaine, with their three children, lived in Estevan, Saskatchewan until 1970 when they moved to The Pas. This started a new chapter of their life and they formed many new friendships. Elaine was a full time homemaker and caring for her family was her priority. This was exemplified in her devotion to caring for John when he became ill. Two years after his passing, in 1996 she moved to Winnipeg where two of her children were living. She was known for her smile and friendly demeanour by many people in her condo. Elaine is survived by her children Eunice (Daryl) Gill, Paul (Cristina) and Grant (Lori), grandchildren Ryan Gill, Jason (Serena), Joel and Joshua Stubson, Jami (Devon) Sanclemente, Paige, Gaelen and Liam Stubson, great-grandchildren Sebastian and Poppy Stubson, sister-in-law Martha Rooney, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Springs Church, 725 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. Interment will be Thursday, July 13, 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas. Officiating Clergy is Pastor Jeff Romas. Arrangements entrusted to: Rock Fontaine Funeral Director Honour - Respect - Dignity (204) 223-2576 / (866) 499-2601
