GERALD JOSEPH CHATEAU November 25, 1938 - July 11, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Joseph Chateau, on July 11, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gerald was predeceased by his brother Roland, sisters-in-law, Lorette Chateau and Gisele Maitre, and brothers-in-law, Gerald (Andy) Anderson and Larry Stephenson. Gerald leaned on his deep faith after the especially painful loss of his son Donald in 1998. Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 55 years, Jeannine Chateau (nee Maitre), their children, Paul Chateau (Kayla) and Gisele Oleksiuk (Darren), grandson Tyler, brother Denis (Geraldine), sisters, Edith Stephenson and Carole Anderson, brother-in-law Ronald Maitre, and many nieces and nephews. Gerry spent his entire life driving a long haul truck to provide for his family. He was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying both hockey and football. A special thanks to the Riverview Palliative Care team for their excellent care and compassion. A service to celebrate Gerald's life will be held at Saint Vital Catholic Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy., at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to you, Jeannine, and your family, on the tremendous loss of your dear Gerry. I remember your wedding in Winnipeg (I was only 11 years old), you and your family coming to Chicago for my wedding and Gerry visiting with us on one of his long haul trips through Chicago. Gerry was a most kind husband and father who loved his family very much. We will all miss him greatly. With love and God's blessings, Cousin Joyce. - Posted by: Joyce Streff (Cousin) on: Jul 14, 2017

  • Dear Jeannine, Paul & Gisèle: Please accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of Gerald. It is comforting to know that his suffering has ended. May he rest in peace! - Posted by: Ken & Léonne Henderson (Family friends) on: Jul 13, 2017

  • Gerry became a close friend when I was 11 years of age. I was blessed to have him mentor me through my youth, where he patiently taught me the trucking business. Many of his life lessons I hold near and dear to my heart and although life drew us apart, I always considered him a father figure in my life. It is very strange how fate will guide people into our lives and to have Gerry and his family guided to me at a very tumultuous time in my life was a godsend. I am forever grateful and express my deepest condolences to his family for their loss. - Posted by: Neil & Liz Birkett (Friend) on: Jul 13, 2017
