SEECHARAN GAJADHARSINGH
Date of Passing: Jul 18, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySEECHARAN GAJADHARSINGH On July 18, 2017 Seecharan Gajadharsingh passed away at the age of 75, after seven years of immense health struggles. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Sheila and daughter, Lorraine. He led a full and interesting life. He came to Canada from Trinidad and Tobago with little more than the clothes he wore. He had incredible work ethic and was a great provider. With minimal grade school education, he earned multiple university degrees. He could navigate a coffee plantation or the ivory towers of academia. He knew the importance of volunteering; serving at Winnipeg Christmas Cheer Board, the Trinidad and Tobago Society and many other worthy organizations. As a social worker and an advocate for those in need, he was a role model as a community builder. He particularly cared about young people getting an education, addressing injustices done to indigenous communities and helping newcomers to Canada finding their place of belonging. He was funny, generous, stubborn, cricket-obsessed, a golf enthusiast, intellectual, political, traditional, compassionate, impulsive and complicated. He was a charismatic character - someone you would remember. He loved too spicy food. He giggled at the outrageous. He could spend hours watching wrestling, but spent 10 seconds in front of the Mona Lisa painting at the Louvre! He was a favourite travel companion; venturing to every continent but Australia. He loved music; Shakira, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and Harry Belafonte were amongst his favourites! He was a card shark and could bluff with the best of them. And, he was a man of his word. When he made a promise, he kept it... his friends remember fondly his refrain "consider it done" when they asked for a favour or made a date with him. He charmed many people throughout his journey. He was as respectful to the "Lord of the Manor" as he was to the serving staff. He loved people and celebrated their successes. He loved our friends and our extended family. He would have been so touched at the immense kindness that we have received in these last few weeks leading to his passing. We are so grateful for all the love and support. It means everything! Love fiercely. Be in the moment with people. We never know when that moment with our loved one is our last. Memorial contributions, in his name, may be made to Winnipeg Christmas Cheer Board and the Trinidad and Tobago Society. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in early 2018. Bardal Funeral Home 204-774-7474 Condolences www.bardal.ca

Seech was a soft spoken outstanding scholar and gentleman that shared his knowledge, experience, and humor with whomever he had contact with. His quick wit and humor was enjoyed by all. Seech enjoyed being around people, learning about different cultures and was always sharing his stories and experiences with everyone. He will be missed. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Margaret Gaune (Friend and Co worker at Manitoba Health) on: Aug 01, 2017

I met Seech on numerous occasions- the first being on his and Sheila's wedding day. i remember offering him the food and a bit of money to eat (part of the hindu welcoming ceremony). Seech just kept smiling and won't touch the food as most grooms do- and he played along jokingly awaiting more. I met him for lunches and dinners whenever I visited Winnipeg and he just loved talking politics. Even on a the occasional phone calls from Edmonton to Winnipeg, he would joke about Trinidadian politicians, Alberta's Premier Notley, and Canada's Prime Minister Trudeau etc. As said in the Obituary, Seech was a memorable guy - large in body and in spirit! I'm happy to have known him as part of our extended family from Trinidad. I am very sad he is gone from us, I've always had a special place in my heart for Sheila too, as I stayed with her and her family in Princes Town to go to school. I know Lorraine as very special person too and I send my condolences to them both as well as to the rest of the cousins in Winnipeg. sincerely, Cousin Pearl - Posted by: Pearl Bennett (Cousin-in-law) on: Jul 31, 2017

Uncle Seech was an exceptional human being with the kindest heart and the warmest smile. I am so grateful for the time that we were able to spend together on his last trip to Trinidad. He will be missed tremendously. - Posted by: Meera Avatar (Niece) on: Jul 24, 2017

While I don't have a story to share I do have fond memories of working with Seech at Manitoba Health. I left Manitoba Health in 1990 so some thirty years later I still remember Seech says a lot about the impression he made on me. He was always a gentleman and ready to help with whatever was asked. Rest peacefully.... - Posted by: Lloyd Searcy (Co-worker at Manitoba Health) on: Jul 22, 2017

With sadness on Seecharan's passing we express our condolences to Sheila and Lorraine and all family and friends. He lived a full life and as mentioned in his obituary, went all out to care for his family, extended family and friends, for me (Moti) it was showing up unannounced at his house when I first came to Canada in 1967, he, together with Sheila, extended a welcome and assisted in a tremendous way in me getting settled in Winnipeg. He will be missed by family and friends, however he has left a tremendous storehouse of good memories. - Posted by: Moti & Germaine Patram (Friend) on: Jul 22, 2017
