GLORIA NINA KALEN July 31, 1926 - July 24, 2017 Peacefully, Gloria Nina Kalen (nee Novak) passed away in Winnipeg. Gloria was born on July 31, 1926 in Winnipeg. She lived a life of love, laughter and adventure with her husband, Henry (1928 to 2004), their three children and three grandchildren: Carlu (Berard - Ron; Danielle and Aidan), Marya (Kalen-Welsh - John), and Gregory (Kalen - Sirima; Kai). Gloria was an accomplished sculptor and actress. She shared her creativity with her children and grandchildren, encouraging them and their friends to step outside their boundaries and let their imaginations fly! She loved to dance when the mood struck her, laugh as often as she could, and love deeper than anyone could imagine. We are profoundly sad that she is gone, but she lived a extraordinarily long, healthy and comfortable life. Thank you to the staff at St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals, and Concordia Village. A private family ceremony will be planned for a later date. A memorial page is available at Cropo Funeral Chapel's passages or at www.MaryaKalen.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My Mom and I were in Winnipeg I think in 2015 and stayed at the Holiday Inn (Used to be the Birchwood) Gloria came and picked us up and we went to the Assisted living home and visited Luba. Luba looked very much like my Grandma Sally. We had lunch together. My Mom is almost 99 years old now and her and Gloria used to send Christmas cards to one another. My Mom has a beautiful piece of artwork called "The Dancer" - a ballet dancer. Just beautiful. We had wondered what had happened to Gloria. I should have looked her up sooner. Very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Patricia Tochkin nee Brown (Helen and Don Brown) (I believe she was my Moms Cousin? Helens Mother was Sally Birch) on: Jan 22, 2021

  • Adeline and I would like to offer the Kalen family our deepest condolences on the passing of Gloria. She and Henry were precious friends of our group(Stanley & Carmen Kolt, Lawrence & Patti Lebitka, Frank & Denise Bott-Toronto, Joe Heimbach). We will cherish her memory. I will say a Novena of Masses(Nine) for the repose of her soul. - Posted by: Leonard & Adeline Schmidt (Dear friend) on: Aug 14, 2017
