Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELGA MARGARETA THIESSEN Helga passed away peacefully at Calvary Place on July 30, 2017 at the age of 90 years. She was born in Mannheim, Germany on March 30, 1927 where she lived during the turbulent war times. After the war she worked for the USA Army as a waitress where she met a dashing young man, Piet Thiessen. Piet and Helga were married on December 22, 1951. In 1952 they immigrated to Canada. Helga was predeceased by her beloved Piet in 2014; her sisters, Inga Bub in Germany; and Ruth (Freya) in Florida. She leaves to cherish her memory her nephew Michael Hughes and niece Jeannette Hughes in Florida; nephews, Jûrgen and Peter Bub in Germany; nephew Anatolij and niece Natalya in Russia; and their extended families; and Helga's close friends. For the last 14 years of Helga's career she worked faithfully in the accounting department with the ICG Propane Division. She retired in 1992. Helga was a wonderful homemaker, cooking up all Piet's favourite German dishes. She loved to garden, knit, crochet and graced her home with many beautiful needlework pictures. A huge thank you to all the nurses and staff at Calvary Place, who were a ray of sunshine and served Helga with kindness and professionalism. All of us, who are left to cherish her memory, are truly grateful. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 with Pastor Henry Schultz officiating.
